I’m still a baby when it comes to Boundless. Sure, I know my way around now (mostly) and I know my recipes well, but I thought it would be cool to share my experiences of the game so far. As it’s early access, it’s important for us to do this.
To start with, I have to say this is the most well managed, well developed Early Access title I have played to date, and I have played a lot of them. When I first saw the Boundless promo at some game show (cannot remember what, maybe E3?) I thought - cool, looks interesting. My best friend could barely contain his excitement and eventually, we bought it. The lil poopstain only played for one day and left me to it, luckily I had beaconed the area that he chose. Yep, I did not choose Frost Mountain, he did! lol So, I was faced with playing alone until my daughter saw me playing and wanted to join. We’d recently lost a family member to cancer and it became our escape. For me, it still is.
Phoebe and I started our epic adventure with very little clue on what we were doing. She - a 13 year old - taught me how to set up portals, how to make a workbench and extractor and what they were used for. Since then she logs in maybe once every couple of weeks, but as you all know I play daily.
At first the community was overwhelming. I work from home, my interactions with people are severly limited. Because of the nature of my work, I don’t leave the house very often, so all of the people I kept seeing in Boundless felt a bit intimidating because the community seemed so strong. I’ve played many games with massive communities, but the Boundless community is something else entirely. You all know each other. All of you. And the devs are incredible at interacting with you all and really listening.
I was determined to play alone. Determined. Until a certain someone invited me to take a space in Steam City. I think that’s where my transition from wall flower to very vocal hunter began. Then wandering through the Portal Network one evening SePras found me and insisted I joined a hunt, and since then I attend most all of the EU ones and the others when the kids are on holiday from school.
Because of Boundless I’ve gone from a shy solo player, to a vocal member of the Portal Seekers guild. I’ve gone from never using an alt to wishing I could have more than 3 alts. The beauty of Boundless, the beautiful people, and the amazing work from the devs has made Boundless my go to game. I am so excited to see what the devs have in store for us next and I hope that Boundless is as succesful as other huge titles in its genre. For now, I will continue playing, and if one person says to me that Boundless is just minecraft, I’ll boop them over the head Thank you for making me feel so welcome.
