I finaly got my invite into the alpha of SkySaga - another Voxel Crafting MMO-like game - and just tried my first two houres ingame. Now I just wonder if some of you are also into the alpha and have some experiences and/or tips to share. Looks quite nice, runs well but is a bit confusing at the beginning
I found the gui and overlays way too crowded and it made me feel overwhelmed.
I also have bad feelings towards the game because a lot of the content was very similar to the original Oort concept art and definitely felt heavily influenced by it (The gameās twitter was also following the Oort twitter before the hype really started, so its shows they defs knew about Oort)
Which one came first? oort or sky saga? Iām very curious because both games seem pretty similar.
I liked what sky saga was doing, but from the videos I watched, it looks like a very overwhelming mess of menus and floating heads (WHY DONT THEY HAVE NECKS?!). Anyways, the game definitely isnāt as good looking as oort, but it looks like it has a great diversity of enemies and such. They also had a lot of good 3d props i.e: lamps, fences, tree leaves, vines etc.
Iām also noticing that this game has a massive presence of social media. They have a very heavy emphasis on their community section, and thereās a lot of facebook and twitter tie ins to up the hype. Oort could definitely benefit from such move, but probably not until the game is more established and out of the alpha.
I found it horribly disappointing, you have a homebase, go out to a prerendered dungeon, completes it, goes back, goes out to the same dungeon again, rinse and repeat. i think the progress system is pretty damn cool though, the fact that you have to do challenges in crafting and combat to level it up makes for more interesting than just farming, but all in all. i had alpha access for a few months now but I donāt bother installing the game again since i dont think it is worth my time.
A quote from a friendā¦ āit looks like the illegitimate love child of Skylanders & Boundlessā.
There does seem to be some heavily influenced elements in the game - keystones are basically exactly the same as oortstones from what I can see. same style of glyphs etc.
Seems to be a lot more content though and I must admit, I do like the look of some of the decor elements, such as beds and benches! Iāll be sticking with B< though
They recently changed a lot of the mechanics and some visuals too. So Iām not quite up to date but while it doesnāt even come close to Boundless. Itās still fun to play from time to time until Boundless has actually something to do^^
Although there are RPG elements, since it feels more like some kind of voxel dungeon crawler, the building is actually the most fun^^ Some props just look awesome. But that kind of is it for the moment.
I especially like the idea how they handled dual wielding and the quickbar. They only have 5 slots i the bar, but each has a place for 2 items - left and right hand. this looks like a good solution. To the gameplay. the controls feel good, gfx is ok, combat is fun (atm) but the random island/dungeon raids can become annoying quite fast ^^
I got access to the first alpha. I played it for a little but like @Squidgy i felt overwhelmed by the gui.
I think iāll stick with Boundless but weāll see which is better when both are done.
Then what witchcraft allowed them to create a fully fledged game faster? They have all the features oort is looking to add and more (with a few very notable exceptions like titans). How do they develop so quickly?
well, there are also no gigantic cool worlds where people explore together ā¦ just mid-quality random pockets ā¦ zero persitence next to the home of each player and the pre-set city-stuff ā¦ and the crafting is quite dull
Ah thank you for the info. From what I had seen the game looked too good to be possible, besides the cluttery gui and the less quality voxels and such.
