Atlas heat map update (and a trick how to force it on PC)

Already answered.

“I’m not fully sure but after a quick look the code I think the server updates the resource maps every 30 minutes, the planet maps every 60 minutes, but the client only requests (and then caches) them every 24 hours. So when you first open your atlas the information should be correct(ish). But it’ll then not update for 24 real world hours. So players will have different resource maps depending on when they were last requested.”

I guess it holds true for the very first atlas you opened if they are tied to us. I did some of my own rudimentary testing, and new atlas’ I opened for Alcyon and Cardass were the exact same as my original Atlas for those planets that are 3 weeks old. Same for some I purchased too.
I wonder, if you made a fresh Alt and used new Atlas on them, would it be “fresh” or still tied to your overall account update time?

I know this is slightly disjointed and I haven’t copied the full quote but there is a slight discrepancy here. You’d have to read the whole thread (which isn’t very long) to see my initial line of questioning.

Simple

this means that your personal game client is the one that requests the update, therefore you can control the when.

For example:

  • Don’t play for 24h
  • Log in - pop up your atlas, that is guaranteed to be current.

Example 2: (not guaranteed)

  • Buy an atlas, don’t use it for 24+ hours. (throw it in a storage and don’t visit that place for 24h)
  • Pop it in your hands - should request an update

Then how come when I’ve done that I’ve just found areas already mined … I don’t think it’s as simple as that and if it is meant to be then it must be bugged.

That probably means my logic is wrong.
happens… only my mother thinks i’m perfect

I would rely on anything James says on this subject more than my understanding of the functionality… Luca would be even better!

Following the logic of

Have you tried getting a new atlas before each mining session?

No not yet, I was following that line of questioning on another thread … if I get a chance tonight I might give it a go … luckily they’re easy to make in bulk :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m pretty sure once the game caches a heatmap, that will be used for all atlases of a given world you look at

yes and once you’ve discovered all regions you don’t need to again!

Was it stripped completely or where there tunnels etc? If it wasn’t stripped, de-voided from all the blocks (where given resource can exist) there still can be many left.

Hmm… and where does it cache it? How about wiping the cache? I’ll do a test soon.

Ok, so I was doing some mining on Serpensarindi yesterday (totally not worth it, Alcyon is so much better… )

BEFORE WIPING chunkcache files

AFTER WIPING chunkcache files

Spot the difference

PS. Have no idea why colour balance is different. It does not matter, look at left of cursor, it’s where I was digging with 3x3 hammer some 16h before now.

PPS. I have correct colour pallets on my computer, and i found at least few other spots where they differ, where a.) there is a bright spot on before, and not so bright blue on after, b.) the other way around. So you can see where people been mining for past 16 hours and where did regeneration occurred.

In conclusion: want fresh atlas resource map? Wipe cache before playing session. I don’t even know if it should or not be counted as exploit  PS4 players of course can’t do that. They are screwed, but hey, they were the day they bought console anyway :joy:

DISCLAIMER: I don’t hate console people, have nothing against those players. I hate the closeness of console ecosystem. Where you buy a computing unit, but can’t do anything with it beside what a producer allow you. I hate iPhones for the same cause. Android to, but it’s a bit more open, so I hate it bit less.

It was mostly tunnels plus I added to them but yeah there could definitely of still been resources there, was very bright though in comparison to what might of been left … I did start an experiment but need to retry it when I get some more plots … basically I bomb mined a hot spot from top to mantle to clear out all resources and them came back every few hours to see if the heat map changed, it always stayed exactly the same but then it also did regen so it’s possible the resources regened too …I want to try it agin by plotting a 2x2 area all the way down and then mining every single resource and then see if the map changes after 24hrs

Console guarantees one thing that’s most important to me in online gaming-Almost devoid of hackers compared to pc. So unless all games go xplat, i’m sticking with the limited boxes

Hmm didn’t realise another person could edit my posts  … that’s a little concerning

Mod can edit whole posts. A regular user https://forum.playboundless.com/badges/3/regular can recategorize and rename topics. I’m sorry if I disturbed you by changing topic title. I simply think that atlas update is big community concern, and by adding what’s in brackets, it gives this cache-clearing trick more visibility. I didn’t want to start another topic, because most of the credit that lead to this discovery is due to you. It was you asking all the right questions after all.

It’s not a problem, I knew moderators could do it just never crossed my mind that others could too.

Wait, you can wipe the cache and there’s no check server side? It will just answer again and again? Wut
