like i said in another post, the issue i see from this is more immersive wise than anything else.
Maybe in the future you could rework that feature so it fits the immersion of the game like using an item to make the beacons item warped to a said storage you prior placed in the world somewhere something similar of what the ender chest mod does in minecraft.(Manual reclaim part)
I think for now it does what it have to do and protect people that miss to fuel their beacon without losing a major part of their progress.
As background - we did originally call this feature âRift Storageâ. Where your items could be returned via a special rift storage.
But then how does a new player (or any player) get the Rift to make the storage if theyâve lost their beacon?
So thematically it was better but logistically it didnât make sense.
But yes, clearly there is zero theming with the system at the moment.
(But maybe the Elder gives you the rift storage? But what happens if you drop it in lava? Lose it? Trade it? Drop it? So many fail cases! We concluded it was better that the ârift storageâ was never held or in your inventory. Function and instant access trumped theming here.)
My meaning was more about it transfer to an already placed ârift storageâ block by example in your home beacon. I am talking about the manual reclaim and not when a beacon dies.
Similar to the portal, you can create a token from that ârift Storageâ block then use that token in the beacon you want to manually reclaim so it goes to that ârift storageâ block.
This way you could send the item to the ârift storageâ block you want.
This doesnât sound new-user friendly though. Some newer users have difficulty figuring out how to place a beacon and fuel it - a lot wouldnât know what the token was or what to do with it.
Edit to addâŚmaybe there could be a âreclaimâ bag of goods that would appear in the sanctum?
Ohhh yeah!
Imagine:
You take down your 2000 Plot Building, that you donât like anymore and want to rebuild it entirely. Your shiney Rift-Storage in your hands looks good⌠but just now a friend cross your way, want to show you something⌠another one start chatting with you to ask you, to go to a hunt, while another again want that you handtrade some stuffâŚ
Somewhen, somewhere you droped your shiney Storage to the nearest Storage you had in front of you.
âŚHours later you run 10 times through all your Storages to find that crazy shiney Rift-Storage.
Iâve set up nice sorted storage but I have a tendency to quickly throw stuff into somewhere and then later on having no clue where exactly I left it. Itâs crazy!
Fun thing earlier: I forged a few hammers in 2 different forges, I noticed I needed some more mats from my storage, turn around to grab those and start forging. I noticed however that it had some dura gums in the forge which is weird since I use those always for speed tools, but the one before that had an ease gum in there since I was trying some stuff out a few days ago. So I removed the dura, replaced with lightness and forged it. An hour later I wanted to pick up my 2 batches of hammers, first one was in the first forge, second one nowhere to be found! I thought I was going nuts! It was in a dura designated forge of course, arghhhhh smacks head on pillow (have no desk, keyboard sits on a pillow in my lap, haha)
If it is view only with no ability to modify in the sanctum, can it be hacked? We canât duplicate items in a character inventory as far as I know. Just like with chests being opened in the sanctum and reseting on the server, the server side will overwrite any actions that take place solely on the client.
Maybe it is soul bound storage or how ever is the best way to spin it. The beacon just acts like an access point.
True, I had ancient tech seam, which is not something you can mine as a block anyway. But I remember having couple of those kinda floating in the air with everything else mined out around them, maybe that has something to do with it.
it used to be a concern back then when people was suggesting to have a storage in sanctum to save blocks.
With the storage cloud they probably have a way to verify it has been modified client side. When you give access to something client side there is always a chance to be hacked/cheated.
If they would have done it that way, i guess they would give a token with the address of the storage in cloud where you can open it while on a server and not showing the storage content in the sanctum.
I feel with you.
My Storage isnât that big and well sorted⌠buuuut i have several Storages as Deco all around and sometimes, if i am in a hurry, i just use them for temporary dropping.
This way i found not just once stuff that i missed for a log time (sometimes weeks later)⌠like Signs, Gleam, or even my Atlasses for Exo Gathering
