The math has recently (like in last patch) been altered. Since power coils now increase spark efficiency compact hard coal gets better the more power coils you have. With no power coils all are even.

Pre-wipe you could find it in the wild in elopor and Andoweem. It was just super easy to get and in a couple of hours traveling, you could get over 1 smart stack…it was really easy to get, along with gleam lanterns and some decorative blocks …

What are the compressed heat and spark values?
Just eyeballing the table that @OmniUno did, it looks like Peat when compacted gained over 100% efficiency. When compacted Medium Coal and Hard Coal’s gain was a little under 100%, while Soft coal’s gain was around 50%.
My conclusion, if you factor in how easy it is to get compact peat, it would appear that compact peat is still the most efficient source of fuel, granted you may have to refuel the generator more frequently.
