Boundless ad on TMS (a podcast)

Just purchased a little ad for Boundless on a popular podcast, The Morning Stream. Will be spoken before the news segment on an upcoming episode (will give a shout out when it does).
The Morning Stream is hosted by Scott Johnson and Brian Ibbott (of Coverville podcast fame!) and it’s a bit of a nerdy look at the world.
Have been listening to this podcast for a long while and Scott’s previous podcasts (Extralife) for longer.
Good fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Mr Johnson also does a few other podcasts including THE BOOP SHOW!, which is a game related podcast, so maybe we can peak his interest!

Hope u got permission or one of the devs. You could be breaching some kind of law.great idea though game does need more advertising

Quite interested in what law you think I might have infringed on  :man_shrugging:
I’m from the UK where the legal culture is a little different to other countries.
Hopefully wonderstruck don’t mind me doing this… Did make it clear to TMS that I wasn’t connected to the company, just a fan. :boundless:

As long as the advert was made clear that it was placed by someone not representing the game studio or the company responsible for it, and wasn’t excessively defamatory (which I’m sure it isn’t defamatory in the least), I don’t think it would violate any laws in the US. I don’t know about the UK, but typically the two countries don’t differ too much on these kind of things.

Was just saying…but here in oz u definitely need permission because u are placing a ad which does represents their company…for example what if I placed a ad but was in a place that misrepresents or mislead. I could place a ad in a pornsite. Totally inappropriate. Just examples…lol

So I was looking at pr0n the other day and saw an ad for boundless, was that you?

Jkjk

If it misrepresents or misleads you are doing something illegal at that point. I believe either one of those would fall under slandering. Which can be grounds for a lawsuit.

Certainly given me ideas if I do this again… Come see the half naked oorts running around with their grapples out.

yeah misrepresentation is illegal, but that responsibility falls on the person advertising not the company, it becomes doubly illegal due to the company gaining grounds to prosecute your for slander/defamatory/damaging their public image.

I don’t think simply advertising something you enjoy on an appropriate media would ever come close to this though. I mean some Youtubers are paid to advertise some things, and sometimes they just advertise things they enjoy without incentive at all. I doubt they get attacked by companies for sending customers their way.

Typically you don’t see much advertising on the behalf of others without consent, but political ads are sometimes that, which is why they add the “I’m so and so and I approve this message” to the end, and if its not there you know they didn’t give it a go ahead nod.

This is what I have submitted.

Boundless, a touch of no man’s sky , minecraft and a whole lot more…sculpt your world in this epic voxel sandbox MMO, available on Steam and ps4. Made by Wonderstruck Games and published by Square Enix.

Any other notes to the hosts?:

not connected to makers of game, have just been playing this game since beta a couple of years ago and haven’t been playing much of anything else since…a very (!) compelling building and exploring game.

Don’t get me wrong was just food for thought… that was all.

All good… And food for thought for anyone else trying something like this in the future.
only thing is wish I had done this when boundless was on sale… Maybe next time

I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. If the devs at some point asked you not to I’d reconsider, but until that day carry on.

I mean leave marketing to devs.
If they dont want to market it “half finished”
Then so be it

I thought this topic was “Boundless ad on ‘TMZ’” which would be a whole nother kettle of fish indeed.

lol, indeed…would have been a tad more expensive as well.
my attempt is more of a shout out to a community of like-minded peeps who might like this game.
The audience for the morning show is relatively small but is quite engaged and has a number of regularly contributors who have their own shows and own groups of very engaged listeners.

you might be right, we don’t know Wonderstrucks long term plans though there has been a lot of speculation ofc.
The official media sites information and media are so outdated and misleading in relation to the current content, it’s pretty disheartening to look at (the quality of shots of builds and worlds put on the forums by players far surpass anything put out there by Wonderstruck).
Then again an active and passionate player base can help push a project such as Boundless, through various activities (twitch, reddit, plushies (!) etc), and maybe motivate the devs, in some small way, to go bigger and better.
Or we can just leave 'em to it and just play.
Whatevs :sunglasses:

Good shout out imo. I’ve been popping in to reddit every now and then to suggest boundless to players looking for building games or games similar to minecraft, nms, etc.

I’ve long thought we should make a fan organized unofficial advertising campaign. I’d donate. But I wouldn’t want to do such a thing without WS’s blessing.
