I like having alternative characters to play. Everything I do in life is role playing, I don’t treat games differently. I have always preferred games in which, if you have to play a character, you can play an entire party of custom-rolled characters rather than a single pre-rolled character.
So I have one character over level 50, they do mining, gathering, hunting, and exploring. Once I get around to filling out pages, they can become more specialized in those tasks.
I have another nearing 50 who is specialized in cooking, brewing, and crafting. Again, skill pages will provide deeper specialization when that happens. They are a homebody who prefers the lab to the field.
I have one who farms and I have a final alt who has specialized in axe and shovel skills. The latter two characters aren’t near level 50 yet. They are manual labourers who earn a decent living and are content with their lot.
I like to use all the tools at my disposal. Why would I want to limit myself to just one? Everything isn’t a nail, why should I only put points into the hammer skill?
I personally like to have alts because they will have their own inventory, tools, weapons.
I won’t have to switch stuff everytime I wanna do a different activity like building then hunting : I just switch to the proper alt.
I used to rely on skill pages before, but that proved to be such a pain to have to manually drop my gear in container and replace it with another set of gear…
Well I’ve got my hunter/ miner fully lvled with the 3rd skill page beeing filled out, my crafter with 1 full page and a half for other crafting, my farming alt, my gathering alt, and my old miner alt with 2 full skill pages now used for crafting, so yhea I enjoy my alts and I can’t wait to get myself down to 3 toons altogether
