@james clearly needs to update his post to say “coming months”
Wow, this thread is still ongoing o_o
Ahem either he was being sarcastic “more exciting news” as in f it we lost the publisher, or he just
copy & pasted some old announcement post and forgot that it says something about “more to come”.
Anyways it is time to move on guys, let it die, this isn’t the “Can we stop the necroing thread” :3
No one of the game makers is reading this anyways.
We’re still under multiple months, though. Once we hit 8 weeks, we will be in “months” territory.
This is how i view it as well.
Up until the 2 month mark, it’s “weeks”, after that it’ll be “months”. So he has some time to go still, in my book
Yeah, 7 weeks is still weeks. Have hope everyone. Think positive, something good is coming.
Yes, and 350968875766 weeks is still weeks too, which is why he used such a vague term. And if anything really good was coming it would have arrived by now.
Why has my message been flagged?
While I don’t agree with the flag, your message was… well, there’s no actual basis for the claim that if something good was coming it would have already come. Also, nobody here is trying to say anything about more than 8 weeks being still measured in weeks. If 8 weeks comes and the goalpost is moved, that is when to start being rude to that argument. Well, you shouldn’t ever be rude, but that’s when to start criticizing it.
Edit: My actual original absolute max for weeks vs months was 12 weeks, but I’ll concede to 8
I am pretty much against any kind of flagging as it is often abused simply because someone disagrees with you, or they just don’t like you.
Regardless, it happens and good luck to someone owning up to flagging you and why they did it. I personally wish it was more transparent.
Edit: Also, I don’t disagree with “Coming Weeks” being any number of weeks.
Linguistically you would not say coming weeks if your time frame is more than a month, it does not make sense when setting a time frame.
However there is no actual rule that exactely defines a time frame in the phrase “coming weeks/months/years/millenia”. It still is non sensical to extend the timeframe to infinity.
Hence the speaker would have a weird sense of time if he/she/it actually means any number of weeks up to infinity.
Which I doubt is the case here, might just be a delay or a paniced reaction on the publisher’s leaving at the time of posting that even lead to the announcment.
:3
Everything over the past year that I have seen from James has been reactionary.
From what I seen I don’t think James-chan was planning on announcing the Self publish So Soon only cause we were so observement and knew that news before he could say anything xD
think his actual deadline for announcing good news will come later Boop
Hey I heard someone say Soon™️?
omg soon is tomorrow
He’s literally pushed into it, basically every time.
The point I was making was he never said a word except to react to something that has happened. Larian Forums comment > Reactionary post. He terminated SE contract (players commented) > Reactionary post.
Just be nice for the community to get something that isn’t reactionary. I’ve been waiting a year
In game as I type this … and hopeful for an announcement soon.
Yes, but there could be a post drop every couple of months, even just to say hi, development is still going good. Here’s some ideas we had, etc. Every 3-4 months, this kind of thing would have been reassuring. Instead, the reactionary nature of the responses makes it seem like he just doesn’t give a damn.

Right I did in fact say nothing to contradict you at all. Or modify your point.
I’ve been gentle about it … well always. Those are both fine examples.
Every announcement or intervention that james has made in this community in the past year or whatever the time frame has actually been, has been reactionary.
He has reacted to several things, I’m tempted to make bullet points but honestly they range from stalking and threatening behavior, the need to protect his (current and / or former) employees from stalking behavior and harassment, threats of people interfering in his (and said employees) current and ongoing employment, etc … to stuff like just being beaten to the community forum with news from another source before he had time to compose any decent announcement or press release.
I mean when there are hundreds or sometimes thousands of people hovering about your every move, I guess this is just how it goes right?
Now since, regarding this particular incident/thread, it’s 35+ days and 500 posts now on Just this thread. And there’s another thread too, at least one that’s been ongoing right? Just this thread though that’s something like a post every 1.5 to 2 hours of “any news yet? I’m so excited/disappointed” for already over a month.

just to say hi, development is still going good
It’s not. I’m not even being a naysayer here, development was officially halted. I’m not digging up a date it’s been over a year now
The meme is funny, we had that moment. It passed. The announcement was made. @redlotus in a reactionary fashion to massive community pressure. I’m always curious what that cost us, as a “community”. What might have happened, if they had a minute to sort out the details, “come up with something”, you know? Do you know how it goes?
You guys need an answer right now? This very minute ?!!
FINE. Here’s Your Answer - and if you’ve ever been a parent or involved in a situation which came to mind when you read that, then you know the answer you get that way is not necessarily the best way things could have gone.
All good. I am pretty neutral in most all of this and always have been. The only thing I have really broken my neutral stance with, is poor communication.
Communication is broken to all hell. I do hope he fixes that…

I mentioned in another thread, but this is what really bothers me more than anything. I could see holding back on the news front - I did hesitate to post that original article I found on SEC’s site for reasons of issues it could cause, but fear for the game’s future overrode that and in any case, they had to remove SE from the PC loading screen and he’d have to have mentioned that part then, so we would have probably had this much about a week or so after I found that.
What hits hard, as a person pretty tuned into people-stuff, is how their interest in and passion for the game and community appears to have completely stopped. Compare things to a few years ago and further back. If they had been quiet like this all along, I wouldn’t be worried. But it went from what looked like such passion to what strikes me as the most utter indifference to and perhaps even annoyance with us. Like we’re a problem he isn’t quite sure what to do about, so keeps pushing it back as long as possible. It wouldn’t take long to stop in and give some acknowledgement to people who offer suggestions and help, to throw some nice words to the incredible creators in this community on their work, just to show that they still care about us. But this wonderful community is left begging, and yeah, that makes me . I just… how do I put this - I REALLY want to believe good things are coming and they haven’t given up, but the silence is deafening, the opposite of love is indifference, and it just ain’t adding up in my head here. I think they want the game to continue to be available and running to preserve it’s legacy and our work, but looking at the communication and money side, my worry is still the same as when I found that article… they’ll take down the public servers and sort of throw the ball into our court.
One possible hope there is…

lleast when say no mans sky stayed silent they kept coming out with update after update with more and more content . active player base of boundless per day is less then 100 .
He apparently knows SM so could be pulling a NMS here. He might well figure, as I also mentioned in another thread, that communication just isn’t his thing, that it is better to not do so and just head down and go to work. But this is a different situation than NMS with a very different direct communication precedent, so clarification if that is the tactic he wished to take would be good.
