All old names are only small letters. I guess the game just supported small letters at that time. My old main is named swede, but my much newer alt character is named Troll with a capital first letter.
So I dont think you made an error.
I guess this does not help you with your problem, but at least it is an explanation.

They missed the e at the end of elite. That happened to me before. Ugh character naming at 3am is not a good idea.
