Not gonna lie, reading OPs post I could have sworn it was a kid. Once I read that he’s been gaming for 40 years, I was blown away.
But as others have said, you’re trying to move to fast. Relax and have fun with the game. There’s no point in rushing the machines because honestly, you’ll barely be able to use many of them for a while. They require rarer ingredients to do most of the good stuff.
I also tried rushing all of the machines right off the bat. Then they ended up sitting there unused for a long while. I also couldn’t find the tech components in the beginning and ended up buying them. The market is a pretty important part of the game. Use it to your advantage.
I must disagree on the PS network, too many portals. Ultima and hubbit networks are way more user friendly. Just looking at the PS map makes me nauseous The other networks serve you a lot better when your requests are like “T1-3 low ping world please”.
The Portal Seeker network isn’t hard to navigate. They have signs next to portals that tell you where things go and they have created map images that outline these destinations too.
I don’t know if anyone mentioned this yet, but…Did you try using an atlas for the tech components? That injection alone has saved me countless hours running around playing guesswork planer to planet. Takes out the guess work almost completely!!!
Need tech components? I might have one or two to spare haha
I think the tutorials are pretty good, but maybe beefing them up a bit could help. In terms of direct guidence to some of the resources. E.g find iron and it actually highlights a seam. Seems there is a wall for new players after a week or so where it all looks impossible.
Give it another week or two and you’ll have everything you need and will find this post amusing.
Boundless doesnt hand everything to you instantly, but it is rewarding when you learn/earn it.
Don’t you have to Hold E ( for PC) to add tips to your tips page? Do they disappear into the eather if you do not acknowledge them? Or should they still be there even though you did not hold the button?
I think PS is easier because you can never get lost. If you can get to any PS hub, you can get to the “loop” and find your way back. You only ever have to remember how to get back to your home world hub.
In my case, Storis is off Grov Te and Grov Te is in the loop.
I’ve said somewhere before that that’s actually what led me to this forum.
Either a game should just be stupidly easy to pick up, or there needs to be some guidance.
It’s been a while since launch, so I don’t know how the tutorial is now, so I can’t say much there. At the time I had kind of a “so… What was that supposed to tell me?” thought.
I think maybe this game needs a “newbie planet” where it kinda just hands you things to play around with. Graduate, move on. Runescape had a nice tutorial island.
Pretty sure that’s been mentioned before too.
You’ve made great points, and I feel your pain.
I will also say, yes!! The community is awesome and worth coming back to. It’s not really a fast paced game. But it’s great to just toll away the time collecting stuff and working on projects.
Pretty sure the game was released early, but there’s gonna constantly be new stuff added. Farming is coming!
If I can suggest anything, even if you don’t feel like playing now, keep an eye on updates. Keep your good stuff on you if you’re not sure about keeping your beacons fueled. But it’s just gonna get more stuff and get better and better.
This does highlight one of the things I love about this game.
This is the first game I’ve played where places actually feel like real places. You don’t just fast travel to a spot. I, literally, tell people things like “head straight, I’m the second door (portal) on the left.”
Locations have “weight”, for a lack of a better term. They evolve and grow (or shrink) and you can actually take a few minutes in a town you haven’t seen in a while to see what’s new.
And, like in real life, There are a couple cities I know like the back of my hand, a few I’m somewhat familiar with and many that I feel like complete stranger when I visit. (Like Gyosha Mall).
I have played countless MMOs, and single player games. This rant seems like a person that prefers the single player cupcake walk through.
The tutorials on this game are abundant, and i would almost say annoying lol. HOLD E!
No the items are not gonna fall into your lap, No with the economy like it is, We dont need resources being any easier.
There are several Hubs setup for whichever product or area youre trying to reach.
Powerman has a whole mining network.
FireBorn has all the gleam linked to where you dont have to look, you almost walk into it.
PS and Ultima has every planet portaled, in 2 different styles.
Not enough to do? I get it we are lacking some content, but you cant say there is nothing to do.
Gathering, Mining, Building, Shop, socializing, pretending there is fish.
Under Knowledge section, you can look at everything in game, what level planets, what they drop from and what they drop, or how they are made.
This game has bugs, It is lacking some content, which is on its way. footfall is still broke
But it isnt that bad.
Yup. lol I love OSRS. The tutorial is fairly long and beyond that there are NPCs standing around that continue to guide you…if you want the help.
Personally, I think the amount of guidance & info provided by Boundless is more than enough
I think there may be a bit of a learning curve for people that have spent most of their time on consoles, and have never played an open-world PC MMO like OSRS or the numerous others similar games.
Never played Minecraft either so not sure what your comment is supposed to tell us…
But, this is not the first game where you need to find stuff out for yourself or have to search for it on the internet, it will also not be the last so I do find it kinda odd that someone who has been playing games for 40 years has never seen a game with no guidance.
I certainly can’t remember the extensive tutorials in all the Atari 2600 games I played or the games at the arcades. Yes, been gaming for 38/39 years I think, so a teensy bit less, but close enough I’d say…
And honestly, lately I’ve been finding Aqua’s just easier, no loop to get lost in, there’s only a handful of hubs, 4 regional ones, of which 1 is also the main hub (EU one) and then a separate T5+ portal. That’s all you need to remember, nothing to learn about routes back or anything…
Nonsense, I go directly to Ultima Hub thru a portal in my home town.
