I Say No only cause there wouldn’t be any use for gleambow & Color Cycling exo some things I enjoy and have fun with

I like the random nature of them showing just think it was not balanced well and the progression through the color group wasn’t moving really. If it was balanced more we would be much farther along.

With all the special exos lately we are getting Gleambow colors and I for one just farm things that I can’t paint. I currently am sitting on 30ish gleam chests of rare gleam from some of the past exos with just rare gleam and other unpaintable blocks.

We are pretty much there already I only went to Gleambow hunts for the rare blocks, mostly gleam, but I have marked about 5 gleam colors off my list from the special exos this past year.

Sadly the color-cycling exo never hits all the colors and Gleambow is a rare occurrence since we have very few players and the chance of getting an abundance of blocks of a specific color is rare.

All that said, while all the colors aren’t being unlocked from a special exo, they are however around long enough for me to get more than I need for myself and several others. Unlocking them just seems smart.

The one I did for Halloween and the Christmas one that isn’t out yet and another one I hope will come out soon.

Yes I’m putting rare colours on the exo’s I make.

No I don’t think all colours should be unlocked.
But I do think they should appear on exo’s. 7 years and a lot of stuff has never been seen on an exo.

You gathered 30 ish ornate chests of mint gleam. :eyes: sounds like you enjoyed getting the rare gleam.

Gather 30 gleam chests of mint gleam and see if you enjoy it. lol.

I just took advantage of a rare color as I just collect rare colors. Granted not much will be rare soon.

As far as unlocking all colors, I think it would make people want to buy sovereigns and keep them for longer periods of time. With 254 colors and a large number of different block types you would never have all the colors available at any one time.

Obviously, you are using rare gleam to be one of the attractors to the planets you are making and that is smart, but in the end might as well just unlock all the colors. I almost feel like that was the goal James had was to eventually unlock all the colors. You ever hear anything like that @Xaldafax ?

I don’t gather 30 chests of anything.
I got maybe 2 stacks of mint gleam.
But a lot of people do enjoy gathering and I hope they did.

You suggesting not enjoying it, but still gathering that much is wild to me.
I guess it’s FOMO. :man_shrugging:

Pretty much FOMO, but more since I know it may not be around again for a bit, I’d gather enough for anyone that may need it or request it in the future.

I won’t build with it, it not a color I’d use. but for the community I don’t mind having it on hand. I enjoy the game overall, but in a crafting building game one should have access to all the colors whenever they want.

That said, I was a proponent for color rarity at the start and it was one of the big draws for me when I looked forward to exos spawning and seeing them have a new color and it was the main reason I rolled many sovereign planets as did Paka and many others, just to unlock more colors for the community.

After many years, I think unlocking the colors in a game that is central around building and being “boundless” you are pretty “bound” to color choices.

Huh? what do you mean by that, there are a ton of rare colors in rock alone. T7 Exo’s have a very small rotation of colors since we only get the three same type. T6 and below exos generally have Home world or Sovereign colors. We need exos of some type like T7 with no lucent but maybe with a few rare colors once in awhile. To give people something to look forward to but not necessarily unlock. The event planets are fun but dull at the same time. Something not player controlled but random.

I don’t disagree really, but rock/wood/ is paintable. Here is the way I see it:

Anything paintable is technically readily available in any color so I toss most of that out. If you need some rock of specific color let me know I’ll get it for you I mostly likely have it or the paint to make it. Someone asked me why I priced an exo only rock color so cheap and that’s due to the fact I can just paint it that color. If I couldn’t I’d definitely not sell it as cheap.

Other arguments I have are:

  1. While I specifically mentioned gleam, the player built exos also have had rare colors of other blocks including rock, tangle, marble, and numerous others.
  2. People will still visit exos as sovereigns won’t have goo, lucents, resin, etc.

Some arguments against unlocking them I have are:

  1. It defeats gleambow other than the gleambow sacs.
  2. It partially defeats color-cycling exos. But, color-cycling doesn’t go through all colors and one could technically get all colors in one place for a specific block.

I’m all for all the player-made exos releasing several rare colors, but for me they won’t be rare anymore and I’ll stop rolling sovereigns and I’ll have most of the colors at that point.

The event planets old and new add very little to the game other than a new way to rearrange the blocks on a planet. That’s nothing against anyone other than Monumental. But, if that’s all we get to “change” then so be it.

On top of all this, I have cared more about the game than Monumental and I dislike that. It pains me to no end.

The only reason I chose yes is the low chances of spawning in any new colors. In 7 years, there are things that haven’t shown up even once.

I voted yes also because of what @VerucaKatt said. I’m still waiting on #22 Shadow Red for rocks! The only time is on Exo’s and that has been slim.

I understand what others have said about gleambow and scarcity, etc… I just don’t agree with it. I like to build and have all the colors available for me to do so. You still have to collect the stuff and its not like we have enough Sov’s out there that ALL the colors can be had ALL the time.

I voted yes myself due to sometimes wanting that color for building and it isn’t available.. Yes I know I can paint but to just have the color already available would be easier in my opinion. I get it there Exo planets and (when available) Sov planets roll sometimes new colors but it is becoming rare..

Came across an idea that could help with the colors and maybe spice things up. All the perm planets we have why not maybe have one lets say every month for example go through a color cycle change for a week or two.. like one month it could be Angel I, next month it could be Storis and so on… After a week or two they revert back to their original colors. I personally would think this would keep things more interesting for the perm planets. Exo planets will have their perks still since there are the special gems still available.

Going by This: Boundless Stats - Colors , just under half the possible blocks still need unlocking. After 7 years…

Yeah I would not like to see all the colors unlocked either it’s a love-hate thing really it’s like you really want all the colors unlocked but at the same time it takes away that struggle that makes you work for it or hope for it . However if there are certain colors you’re looking for and you really really need them or want them and people do have them but you don’t have a lot of them ask around people are willing to share there’s always more to be had and recently somebody parted ways with about 50,000 luminous blue marble and others have been meeting mine needs with colors like shadow fuchsia sponge sand soil thorn. So I hope most people say no and I hope they don’t release them all or at least I hope they don’t simultaneously or rotate the rare colors and how long they’re out for like the color cycling world cuz as we found out with the color red gleam. It got old fast. Too much of a good thing isn’t always a great thing. See you soon Time for some struggle

However if everybody except for me votes yes and the developers said I needed to vote yes for it to be unlocked or no and it wouldn’t I would obviously vote yes this is hypothetical .

I’ll talk to Jon about it this week.

Now, after six years, I’m actually posting here for the very first time.

Absolutely no way.

Unlocking all colors means:

  • The entire Goo and color mixing system becomes redundant. Boundless already has the problem of offering little endgame content. Goo + color mixing and to a degree forging are the only significant endgame systems in Boundless that are complex and technically interesting. Why would you want to make such content redundant? Sure, you could still farm Goo and mix colors, but it wouldn’t make sense under any circumstances.

  • Building larger structures from rare colors is a special challenge that can enrich the gameplay for dedicated players. No longer.

  • This change would make creating a well-stocked color collection a trivial task that could be achieved with pure time investment and, if necessary, a few dollars. Boring. Nowadays, you can be proud of a complete color collection because you had to search long and hard for the last pieces. That would be gone.

Essentially, this change would make Boundless a flatter, more boring game. It would be a shame if Boundless followed the trend of making rewards and achievements easily attainable for quick serotonin fixes. After all, it is a classic grinding game and should remain true to its target audience.

Apologies, but I think this suggestion is either not very well thought out, or it was made to push through self-interests.

If you keep up with the current trend, every special/holiday exo since the July 4th one has had several gleambow colors on them and with pure time investment you can have almost the same achieved it will only be a matter of time.

If the game is truly “Boundless” and the games largest draw is it’s building, why limit the colors you can build with.

I am that guy … the guy that collects all the rare colors, it is what drew me into the game at the start I even bought an entire gleam shop @JaceyLive due to me wanting to build my collection, but at this point, it’s nothing more than a bragging right at this point unless someone needs the colors which I am happy to give for free or at a much lower price than say the 5k per gleam for gleambow colors.

I do agree with the Goo somewhat though as I just built my own huge goo farm which took several months. That said, it still allows me to spray paint any color I want and we will never have all colors available at any one time even if they were all unlocked.
