the sun can be seen through planets and there isnt an affect on the lighting on the surface of the planet from which you are viewing it

it just happened again right now, you can see it better here that the light shines through the planet a bit and below you can see no change in the ‘daylight’

I think an eclipse mechanic would cause trouble, since the planets pass overhead quite often.
