so havent really played the game much joined a world and i whas just like dayng when entered. the ash kinda look bad when you look at it because it just look plain white look
the white is ash. and then we have the ice glacier i like the colour just kinda too rockyI kinda see where youāre coming from. I think they should dial back the ice glacier ānoiseā, just make the texture less busy and more simple. I think just removing the rocks might do that.
I donāt like any of the new blocks to be honestā¦
When I first saw growth I was disgusted
(No offense :D, and maybe thatās the purpose of those blocks⦠dunno )
IMO they still need a lot of workā¦
EDIT: I went into the game to see them by myself and the side of the glacier and the ash texture look pretty cool.
I havenāt checked them out in game yet, but Iāve also been a bit disappointed by glacier and growth.
The second picture is meant to be āglacierā / āiceā ?
yep it is sadly it is
Ahhh⦠I donāt see it. Not without it being explained to me first, which is kind of a problem. Maybe Iām not quite getting the blues in this screen shot but it could do with less grey and needs fewer of those chocolate chunks throughout the texture imo.
Agreed. A few new blocks need the same.
No offence to the people that textured these blocks⦠But dang, I wish we could go back to pre-C++ texture!
Thanks for the feedback, yāall, Iām taking notes.
The new blocks are not finished yet - hence why some are plain white and most donāt blend properly - and Iāll be refining them soon. I definitely agree that glacier is too busy right now - seeing it in context as an entire mountainside rather than the relatively small amount in my test world was a surprise!
Not necessarily more simple but less busy anyway, you can easily have rather advanced textures that looks great in large amounts.
I wish I could like these more than one time ![]()
In all seriousness though:
I think all (well most) new blocks look awesome, if you look at a single block. But if you see a whole lot of them simultaneously (like it“s usual for rock, ash, foliage, gravel, to just name a few) the amount of details becomes quite overwhelming, which becomes rather taxing for the eye quite quickly.
I think the cartoonish look makes it to āstrongā and ābusyā overall. I most miss the old ancient trees cuz even if they used the old texture in the new worlds they look not fine and shiny anymore but strong in color and dull. The old one blended well with the other more smooth textures, the new ones on the opposite have strong contrasts which looks in balance with player characters, but still to much as a comic then the previos textures, which seemed more ārealā. I still hope that this is only a world specific use of the textures, but I fear not.
Most of the ideas behind the blocks are great though they could do with some changes.
For the glacier for example: Removing most of the rocks, (not necessarily all of them), tuning the color differences slightly down or spreading them over a larger area, and removing maybe 75% of the cracks, could do wonders for the texture when looking at larger amounts of it.
Another way to go about it would be to make the pattern spread out over a much larger area, that way you could probably make it look better with a lot of blocks pressent.
Overall I find the block textures in the C++ version to be more āharshā - combinations of sharply defined details, very contrasty colors, etc.
