Grayscale 2d-maps in wb

Please make 2d-maps in worldbuilder gray scale, its hard to know in a complex high-map which is highest, red, blue, green…or maybe yellow.

white :stuck_out_tongue:

Dunno, I find the colored heightmaps pretty useful - it’s a lot easier to identify differences in smaller height ranges. Also finding specific ranges (e.g. bright green being 0.0)

It shouldn’t be terribly hard making it a choice though. Making a check-box you can press or something like that.

Like that

I know, but white flatting everything out…

Switching to grey scale wouldn’t change that, unfortunately

All of the visualizations show values from -1.0 to 1.0, anything above 1.0 is capped at white (or the top in 3d), anything below -1.0 is capped to black (or the bottom in 3d).

It would definitely be handy to have a mode where we can visualize values outside of that range (say, for intermediate noise functions) - that could work regardless of grey scale or color scale

Yes, but try to trim a colored highmap is very hard compared to a grayscaled one, when you have to check the solution in the renderer for every twist.
I have used alot different worldbuilder, but never seen a highmap in color, but @Thorbjorn42gbf suggestion with a checkbox for grayscale sounds good.

I gennerally just have 2 rendered versions runnign by the side of the editor while working.

Yes, same. The high-map and rendered world.

Yes, would like that.
