How are people finding enough Sapphire / Topaz for Advanced Power Coils?

I sense a “Boston tea Therka amethyst party” brewing…

I completely map each planet before I start looking for any resources on it … that was going to be my next on the list … i might just leave that one then for the time being

To get an idea of how rare I’m finding topaz I just set up my new base on one of those square mountains, they look cool so thought I’d kill 2 birds with one stone. I’ve dug out a 7 by 10 set of plots right through the sweet spot of where to find topaz. That works out as mining around 5000 blocks or over 10000 swings of the hammer. I have a grand total of 53 topaz to show for it, lol.

As topaz is essential to make power coils for the refinery, to make leather, to in turn make spanners to repair all the power coils this feels way too much. Now I know I could up the efficiency by strip mining etc but that’s still a bit brutal. Maybe we could up the density on the High altitude gems just a bit, pretty please nice kind Devs :+1:

That much space mined out for 53 topaz looks like…

1 gem per 100 blocks us a solid yield. They are supposed to be rare. Problem is there are not enough terrain supporting their spawning. So you find a few places where they can spawn and that’s shared between a dozen miners that are interested and you are in trouble.

I love the update and expanse on the crafting. But I fear that if we had to start from scratch, like most players when it goes live, it will feel impossible to get anywhere unless we are jobless, and live with our parents.

I’ve played since July of last year and do not have a stock pile that I would even think of wasting on gem torches and compact diamond blocks for decorations. In fact I still do not even have the resources to even make a single advanced power thing. I’m kinda worried that a lot of the resources are so rare it would take years to get to make the cool stuff. I have no interest in a game harder than my day job to get anywhere. I would rather work real life hobbies and become a master for real, if it’s going to take this kind of time in a fake world.

I like the complexity, but the drop rates need serious balancing. Imagine 5000 people instead of 80 playing this at the same time. All going for the same spawns.

50 ish worlds for the full release is the plan - so yeah I think we will have space; also some people will have their private worlds etc. spawning rules are in an ongoing balancing - I remember some big changes in there last year and there were some more lately (as higher drops of high tier resources and larger seams)

As many worlds as required to support the player base for the full release is the plan… 50 is an arbitrary number that materialised from somewhere.

i did strt from scratch at 188, and i’ve managed to get together enough stuff to at least put enough coils on my compacter to block up coal. It’s not impossible, but i imagine it’s a completely different game from what it must have felt like before.

Don’t despair, it’s still an awesome game to someone who didn’t know it last year.

I don’t usually have a problem getting my materials, because I’m patient. I still haven’t gotten all my advanced power coils yet, but I’m in no rush. However, this issue is something that I believe would dissuade the average player from building their own self reliant system, and instead force them to reach out to shops and make purchases. This is a good and bad thing, but for the most part, I believe it invites price fixing, and puts strain on the newer players. As a suggestion to rectify this, I would invite all players that are trying to rush this to look at this as an end goal. Honestly, after you build your power coils, there’s nothing really for you to invest your resources into, unless you plan on making several iterations of your working space, or varied instances of your already present machines. Essentially, this should keep you busy until the next content patch, and if you can set a goal that reaches out to that point, you will soon find that your collection rate exceeds your current demand, and you might even have excess. Immediacy isn’t always the best solution.

Happy to be patient. However, finding only one seam of Topaz after 2 hours mining with gem tools, and bang in the middle of an atlas hot spot, would test anyone’s.

Hate to break it to you Prome3us (cool name by the way) it wont take long for those power coils to fall into disrepair without a ruby spanner.

Oh definitely! but for some odd reason, people seem to like buying all my freshly squeezed coal blocks, so I’ve managed to purchase a spanner (and then some) before needing it… It certainly pays to think ahead thanks!

Edit: when 1.0 comes around, whatever happens to the world, it would certainly be advisable to get materials for at least enough coils for all the machines before getting around to building them. I see this as mainly a guild-level target and seriously doubt that the first fully coiled setups will belong to individuals…
