Kovah project: Reopening soon

Hey everybody, it’s been a long while since we’ve made a community effort on this project. I know we suffered a few setbacks and a lot of burnout, but I feel that with a concentrated and organized group effort, we can still make this project a reality that the entire community can be proud of.

Before we do that, I want to get a sort of roll call of active members that are willing to help with this project. The continued effort will remain under the protections of an alpha beacon, so I would like to make sure everybody who needs perms is listed so we only have to bother the devs once. I will leave this list open for 7 days from now so everybody has time to enroll.

While the list is pending, let’s discuss some details! I want to focus on just one district at a time rather than spread our efforts so thin. I also want to focus one one building at a time rather than start a dozen separate builds. We’ll have to coordinate and contribute to each others builds. There is no telling what the final product will look like, so it should be interesting!

What district should we start first, and what building in that district?

I want to enlist as a “whatever the equivalent to redstone in this game will be called” - technician^^

I mean not that I’m a bad builder but I like to build technical things with purpose more^^

But that also means I won’t really help building until the next update with the first machines.

I think we should start with finishing the wall
After that I think that the entertainment district should be the next choice (would be good to already have power cores and machinery ingame when we start with the industry/crafting district or. have plinths & containers ingame when we start with the trading district)
The only thing that kinda puts a damper on the motivation is the knowledge that the city will probably be abandoned (and ultimately be deleted) once the new worlds with new contend go online.

Don´t you steal my job!:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

You can be my apprentice if you want :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Indeed. And we could also begin laying out some of the side roads.

HA! We´ll see
(I think the power cores and machines we saw in the artworks will act as a production chain and not as a logic/actuator system like redstone was)

@SpaztasticMoose
We already started to lay out some of the roads according to this plan:

See, my thoughts about the machines were that we should finish the mining/refining district. The machines could go great there. The wall is nice but it really serves no purpose and may take so long we may never fill the inside districts. Also, stylisticly the refinery district has the most established .(@nyuudles arched roofs and Dwarvish arcitecture)

If not the mining district, then the trade district has a lot going on too.

Or, perhaps we focus on finishing the roads and bridges first? Good opportunity for less skilled builders to pitch in early on.

Not sure what I’d be good at building, so to speak…but if there’s any menial tasks such as building roads/repetetive wall patterns, I’d love to help out. Maybe once I’ve got a sense for the style I can help design more buildings and such, but I’d still like to help build in any way I can

There’s the one arched bridge with a half (quarter?) done base that could use some mirroring

I’ll log on sometime to check it out. I’ll start on it as soon as I’m added to the new beacon :grinning:

Count me in. I love doing massive builds. Never done anything colab so I’ll have to learn to play with others. It’ll be nice to get away from my own builds for a while.

Not sure if my design aesthetic is going to match what’s already been done, but I can likely echo what’s already been established and work from there.

They will definitely go great there. I´m just not a fan of fitting something new into an already finished build.
(Nightmares of fitting redstone contraptions into small corners of already built ships/castles etc. come into mind)

That was my intention when I suggested to start with the wall.

Oh I feel you^^
“a 10x4x2 space? Sure, I can fit that clock and the logic in there.”
…3 hours later…
“I give up. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?” xD

And yes the machines so far seem rather restricted in comparison to redstone. But we’ll see about that once it’s out^^

That’s why I always build my major builds on a hollow foundation. Yuuuge space for hidden redstone, or dungeons, hidden storage, what ever.

That surely helps yea^^ hollow walls help too^^
But I don’t want to go offtopic anymore. This topic is for the Kovah revival after all.

I’d love to finish the wall, I’m just a bit concerned that something that large and that repetitive will lead to interest burning out before it’s finished. If we have to wait and pay players to finish the wall, I’m ok with that so long as the rest of the city is finished.

On the other hand, it may be best to finish it early on while interest is still fresh. I’m down for either option. Who else wants to pitch in?

Comment “1” for a district (and which district) and “2” for the wall and gates. If 2, elaborate if you want to work on gates first or the wall itself first.

Edit: my personal vote is for 2- gates. I want to see this huge undertaking done first so we can be rewarded by moving on to more exciting builds.

Scortion reporting for duty!
Because I started the Slums in kovah, I wanted to start there. But since it isn’t a very big project I would like to start with the trading district.

I’ve found it most effective to have two or three options available when doing massive builds like this. People do tend to get burned out if they are working on the same massive, repetitive project with no change. In this case I’d make the walls and gates primary and choose a district as a secondary option. This will give some chance for sanity when someone cant’ stand to stare at the walls any more.

2: I think the gates should be first. Make sure they are built and placed right. Then fit the walls in between them.

Could I possibly enroll in this activity? Ive got a few builds in progress, but I think it would be nice to work on something big with the community.

Hello there, I would like to participate.
I like to build and terraform but I’m open to all sorts of odd jobs. I’m available most of the time.
