Nice design! But the shoulder pad(?) might be little to round. but it’s amazing nonetheless
I’m curious, how long did that take you to model? Also could you show us some character 3d models, that would be cool.
well as I have been practicing and doing this for a long time, for 4 or 5 years more or less, I can do the prop, object or de model (i mean those that are not charcters) little models as i spent all day at house it depens on how complex it is and how big it is also. So without going out and home at lest 1 to 3 hours with basic to complex details and the large ones, half a day or day and a half including at least 2 or 3 days xD (depends also of my mood).
Then if we talk about charcters and animations, the basic model i can do it perfectly in a few hours or a day depending also of my mood of course. but i have a lot of practice on this and for me is easy but i like to take my time to do more datails. After modeling the base, the figure of the character i have more work to do counting the sculpting part, when you detail where the head is, the muscles and other basic things, also private sometimes. Ok after sculpting that this is a lot of work you need to clen the model, stabalize all the poligons making it regular. This step is called retopologie, making the model to hight poly to low poly.
After this there is more steps to follow, like maping, that lets you paint or puting texture to your charcter, like the color of the skin, and also make the same steps with accessories that will have like cloths and other things. when done the mapping you can paint or put the textures on your model that makes him look more toonie or realistic depending what do you want in that moment. Also you can put some effects in the textures, like bumping, normals, glossines reflection and lots of more options that have their own properties. for the textures you can look for then in internet or make them yourself you can choose.
Ok finaly after texturing your charcter is finished or the model you did depens on an object, landscape, ect. well if you want that it looks pretty awsome you can add lights and animations too.
All this process can be done perfectly counting with lights and animation in 2 or 3 months more of less. depends on the complexyty and more other thing you have to count with.
-The modeling of the charcter: hours to 1 or 2 days
Lightning, animation and rendering you will need a few days, because patience here including in lights and animation is key.
Well as you asked me some models that i did without animation took me like a month and a half per model

the fist is an example of a good texturing with fur effects and glow, with some lights and a foggie background, with a static pose
This second one is a reference of my character in 3d for a fursuit that I wanna buy in a future for going to any furcon I could like
Here you have another of the charcters I’ve made and part of a Story I’m making. he’s name is Lhan, its an invented race of mine with copyright inspired in Avatar but very diferent to Na’Vi’s. As you can see I made him in 3d and make a background with photoshop with some effects to aply him there.
Is a mix of Volverine, Predator, protototype game, cat and human look with emu look feets. Here his reference also in 3d with a static pose. Is a Rogerian.
this one is the first ref i did of this charcter. so the first one is the good one. the updated one
I will make also a rotation animation a walk cycles for each one and then post them so you can see how they look properly in HD. @Combatman12

PD: if you go up to older post in this thread if you have a look those without lightning, flated color, without color or no background are made manually in pencil, others you see like more realistic or semi realistic are my creations in 3d with some photoshop effects applied

I was bad in those days, bat was my first year so its a good work anyway. I did it in 9 months and alone.

That’s cool, I feel like your 3d designs are too realistic and not stylised enough to fit boundless (If that was the intention). I don’t know how to put it otherwise but here’s a reference.
Well this is not a problem for me i can adapt my modeling at any style having the design reference in front. Its not dificult, Its just that if you give me a ref sheet of what you wanna have modeled i just adapt the style changing the modeling form, i can do boundless style too.
I have to say that all the creatures and charcaters in boundless have a low poly build. very low i mean. Than makes the job more easy if someone give me any design with all the ref sides of it in boundless style i could do a charcter in a few hours and have it also with texture and maybe a pose in one week xD.
Challenge accepted!!! someone make a ref of a chracter in a boundless style wanna try how much time I am able to do it.

Style is not a problem for me, i adapt my modeling at any style
I think so too, but also it is a very good way to learn detailed modelling with creating realistic objects. Style and simplicity still can be learned. I will help him on creating a stylized creature or avatar
Though I need developers feedback also. And if they want this after all.
@Bokke we can just help and participate as if we were doing fanfics of it, and if developers like it, they just have to say it and i will be glad to give any model i make to them, freely (if they want to…coughpaycough ) who said that? xD.

I also find a little work of lightning I did with reflection properties and transparency. with crystalized texture. was my first lightning work

And a desert landscape with ruins in nightfall, enjoy, if you seen my project video you will notice that is the last part of the animation where my character takes a little break

This is not finished yet but it is a middle part of my story I’m writting that in a long future will be a large scale animation like a film i will slowly do or a serie but first is writting, next is the comic and here i have an unfinished part of the part i was doing for comic with some illumination and landscape test. As I said is not finished yet and needs a touch/es on photoshop for talking bublles and other effects.
My character appears here with an old tiger “friend” called Zeyran. they have a close fiendship relationship and I have to say that i worked good that nice ass xD.
Its called, Util End. enjoy, you can imagine at your will if you want what are they saying in each image.

I’d try making the clips very short. Epic scale is alluring. But try making them short, squeezing as much detail into it as possible. Would be my approach. But is a guess. Because I haven’t worked on animated films so far. Thus I can’t provide rock solid wisdom on how to do it. But I can try. Is like a buffet - one cannot eat everything of it, but one can create a diverse one person meal out if it. Buffet - epic scale. Meal - medium scale. Snack - small scale but very tasty. Ok, I know it sounds weird. I’m all in for desserts. Short, tasty, and always want more of it until one gets sick.
I don’t have time right now and I’m not the best artist but I will give it a shot at some point. I think you should try this race: Also you could model the tools in their hands separately right now.

Sure I can create in a few minutes the model of a tool, without a refrence and do it in that style. well I haven’t done much non realistic but I am able to adapt the style But i have other works i did when I was studying this my fist time and i have a robot that i found in an older folder. also the non realistic style depends on how you put the textures and the level of detail they have and the detail also depends on the detail of the model not only in the textures hehe.
Yeah I create the textures of my characters everytime i don’t find a regular texture that i could like in the internet also that it fits and stays as I imagined, so if I dont find any interesting I just create my own texture and this takes a lot of time for me. but the results are awsome. sometimes also I combine textures and play a little to look how the final look will be appling some random filters.
An example of a created texture is my Avatar, I’ve done that one during a complete week and a half just to fit it and create a good looking pattern. I applyied some noise to look like has some fur on his body. I also enjoy doing the eyes, is hard but cool also if a apply some glow effects. well respondng to your question, yes sometimes I create them by myself
