These skills wouldn’t cost points and would passively/permanently rank up with exposure or use.
Gills - Ranked skill, each rank increases swim speed and breath hold duration. Mastery allows underwater breathing. Levels up only while breath-holding and swimming simultaneously.
Pyrophile - Ranked, decreases lava damage percentage per rank, mastery rank grants immunity to lava burn damage. Prerequisite skills required for Mastery rank, such as scales. Levels up slowly with lava damage.
Scales - Time spent on blast/burn worlds slowly levels up this adaptation. Each rank is +1 blast/burn resistance. Prerequisite for Pyrophile mastery.
Tardigarde - Chill world resistance. Mastery also decreases hunger.
Limb Regeneration - Increases passive health regen. Levels up by taking damage while critically wounded
Phoenix Feathers - Decreases death penalty. Levels up by sacrificing exp points into the death penalty. Mastery removes the death penalty completely… and you’ve probably sunk about 1,000,000 exp into the skill by this point.
Crafted materials must be spent to level up each skill once the current rank’s exp requirement is met (Gene Fragments, Gene Segments, etc.). While the meter is full waiting for rank up, you earn no exp towards the next rank.
Any other ideas for skills and requirements?
Also I would imagine some people will quit
jk lol.

Add corrosive skin, living on a toxic world cause you to absorb the poison over time, causing you to poison anything that touches you. Cough wildstock

Wings - Airtime will level this up and each rank gives you the ability to fly for x minutes.

Hehe, these sound more like mutations.
Great idea, but I’d rather these be race specific bonuses when they add those.
Omg, can you imagine a dragon-inspired race with that pyrophile ability?
Yes, I def want my cute and fuzzy race, but if they add dragon beings with fire/lava resistance I know exactly who’d be my miner char.

Lol I can see people jumping off of buildings repeatedly until they learn to fly! Also flight towers would be awesome to build… just climb, jump and gooo!

Apex Predator - kill with 1 hit any creatures with less max health than you… rank 1 works on creatures with 20% your max health, Mastery for any creature with less max health than you…? Or 60% of your max health? Rank up by killing creatures with at least 2x your max health.
Resourceful - Begin earning occasional random coins while harvesting. Earn exp each time you switch back and forth between harvesting wood and rock. So if you mine all day and then go chop a tree, you earn exp once… but if you spend all day switching back and forth between mining and chopping you earn exp every switch.
Leveling these skills would be very quirky in nature.
Blender - Requires apex predator mastery. You can now auto-harvest weak creatures without killing them. Requires a tool with Auto Harvest boon.
Apex one wouldn’t work, people would just go max dps and spec out of the hp skills, to level it to max then just raise their hp back up.
