No Man's Sky

So the rumours were actually true…

You can pre-order now ready for release on June 24th

Now I just need to buy a PS4 :frowning:

Already pre-ordered for PC, very excited.

Wait… what… PC is available for pre-order already as well? Where from?

I thought it was going to be a PS4 limited exclusive for a certain amount of time before they released the PC version?

Check Steam man.

Cheers!

Here’s the link for anyone else that wants it!

I’ve now pre-ordered as well!

I was interested in this game, but I’m very against preordering things, especially after all that Arkham Knight business. I’m skeptical as it is, because everyone was saying that the game was going full quantity > quality, so I guess I’ll just wait for reviews.

At $60 I think I’ll wait for reviews. The trailers look good–but sometimes the trailers are all the best parts, and none of the rest.

I am a little concerned that Steam has it listed as “single player”… and the fact that I’ve not seen anything in the trailers to say that you ever get to see any other players (even though it says “Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space.”). By the looks of it, the only thing that extends to other players is your discoveries.

I so hope I’m not going to be disappointed with this!

I don’t trust pre-orders any more. I was pretty hyped for this when it was announced at E3. I’ve lost a lot of that since due to some concerns. I’m definitely waiting to see it in action before dropping $60, or more likely $120 since the wife was intrigued as well.

For anyone interested, here’s a brief first take on it by Andy McNamara from Game Informer…

i got a ps4 only for this game actully…

Hope you’ll be around for the premiere of my game which takes place entirely underground: No Skies, Man!

You’re making a game?

I make a lot of games. At least I start them. The one that’s farthest along is called Waitville. It’s like all those other time-management games where you wait for things to finish, but in this game you just wait. The faster you wait, the better you score. You can also wait more intently, which gives bonuses. It’ll be huge. Huuuuge. (It’s a real game, I promise. It’s just not finished yet.)

I have another one in the early stages of development, but there’s a lot of groundwork to do. I need about a thousand hero and villain names not already encumbered by trademarks and copyrights, and that’s just darned hard to come by.

So much sass and sarcasm. I love it^^

The games, at least, are real. (Sass–well, yeah. I’m that guy–and too old to change now.) I even have music bought for Waitville. The last time I was working on it I was trying to add procedurally-generated backgrounds to the main screen and looking for a proper sound effects library. I’d already gotten the multi-language thing done. That was two years ago. (These things take a really long time with me.)

So that game is really in a (more or less^^) steady development? It does sound like a fun idea^^

Also for what the hell do you need a thousand hero and villain names not already trademarked? xD

And please don’t change the sass^^ I love that^^

It’s kind of steady–with me the game work goes in spikes. I do so much coding on a daily basis that I’m fair worn out by the end of a weekday, and only since my son started college have I had weekends to work on these things. (I was being a high-school band parent otherwise.)

I need around a thousand names because what I’m scoping out is a card game in which one has a deck of heroes and plays the cards singly or in combination against a threat from a villain. As one works through the victories and defeats one gains access to better and better heroes, goes up against badder villains or villain groups–it ought to sound reasonably familiar. I just wanted to use capes in it because I spent eight years in City of Heroes (first 100 beta tester group, even) and it’s a genre I understand. Japanese miniature monsters, no–but sending Marshmallow Manhunter to defeat Kardashabrat? That I can do. So, back to my point–it would be a very small and unsatisfying experience if one could earn only 18 hero cards. That’s why I want to have a lot–I don’t have to have all of them to finish the game and get it out for playing, but I need enough to keep people busy while I invent others (I actually have a small team of people contributing names and ideas, so I can’t take credit for everything that ends up in the game).

I have 41 heroes and 39 villains thus far, and the villains are more or less reusable. I started working on the page art this week; last week I was looking at power levels and trying to work out rankings. I know how the math works (it’s in my head, anyway), and I want to get some of the presentation stuff set up. I started working on the page art this week, as well as components for the detail cards and things like that. I’m also trying to decide how to get it to look good on phones, which isn’t that much fun to do, and it will be difficult to test.

Sounds amazing so far, if you are ever in need of a beta tester. I volunteer as tribut^^

I’ll keep you in mind–I know where to find you.
