Outpost hijacked

I hope you’re wrong on that point and maybe we’re just lab rats in a social experiment. If you are right then at least I have the comfort in knowing that there are plenty of other games out there that I can enjoy and compared with some games I’ve bought I’ve had good value for money. …plus dare I say it there is always minecraft to fall back on … although that will seem pretty blocky in comparison by now, not really somewhere I want to revisit.

I don’t think it is - it was simply an easy way to auto-group players together to create cities, without you needing to track down or wait for another player to come online so you could ask if you could join their settlement. It worked for the most part, but it uncovered some undesirable issues. I have faith that the devs are working on a solution

As for private servers, I think there will be enough players that want to rent anyway - even without the above side-effect, purely for the reason that they would be able to whitelist who they want to play with, design their own world style & biomes etc.

I tried playing vanilla minecraft with my daughter a couple of months back (she’s not ready for Boundless yet) … all I kept thinking to myself as I was building was… “I wish I could chisel this to make it look better” or “I could really do with a grapple hook to get up there”.

Yeah, I hope I’m not right too. And I also hope that you’re correct in the hope that they’ll get enough money via private servers that it funds maint/dev/profit on its own (I’m certainly a likely candidate for it).

I will also definitely buy into servers and am happy to support the game this way as long as I feel the devs will look out for the solo player as well as the large groups. I can see the devs have been working behind the scenes to try to do this.

Just to add my 2 coins, I would happily pay for an official private server to have my own planet, allow who can stay and build on it, and still be a part of the larger universe. I am not a modder and do want to be a part of the universe so the hosted server is not for me. I have only opened the world creator once. LOL It looks interesting but way out of my league.

This issue could be easily solved if you had a toggable reserv feature of the cubes around your plot, on the beacon. This way you would automatically protect your settlement. Of course then you should not be able to set this if you are close to another settlement.

And boundless really needs the feature to buy and sell plots. :bank:

What’s so wrong with just simply having an option on your beacon that allows you to opt in or out of merging?

after reading a few of the top posts (knowing its a few days ago) there are so many similar posts of aggreived players who wish to play on their own/when they play on their own - stay away from big settlements - due to the current issue of being swollowed by the fact that the mayor can essentially take ownership of their area (not as in direct ownership ofc… it annoyed me greatly months ago that i became part of Eloportas (sorry @Jeffrotheswell) even though i was at least 10 plots away (deliberately)

Yes there deffinately needs to be an opt in/out option (i hoppe your reading devs :stuck_out_tongue: )

a few other fixes…

  • i hear private servers will be a thing? (i really hope they don’t cost the ends of the earth like most do! - i would be willing to pay say about £100 max for a years rental for a private server for myself… and maybe a select few others, so we can build in peace)
  • more planets are apparently planed (i did read a number of months ago that one of the dev - it might even have been James? the way we are coding the game right now, there is no reason why the universe cannot be - infinite - where we will keep adding planets over time)
  • i like @Stretchious idea (i think it was him/her) who suggested the area of influence although this would be a great idea i would prefer to leave the AOI wars to the bigger cities/settlements

The only other option (currently) is either as @Cookviper said… politely ask them to retract from your settlement… or… if you cant beat them… join them

Ooohhh… buy and sell plots… (or an reserved area) now that right there is a GREAT idea!!!

-as an example… place a reserve XXX number of plots Beacon (so you have two beacons… one where you can physically plot… and another where you can reserve (up to your current max total) of plots… those reserved plots, you would be able to sell to others (as way of deed-ship if you will?)

I deliberately build my settlement miles away from anyone so as not to get in the way of any big developments, this person has started building near me in the last month and has plenty of room to spread in the other directions so clearly this person has there own agenda to swallow up my outpost. I don’t just play solo in as far as I also have plots that are part of cities which I have chose to join, this is just my main base that I prefer to keep separate.
I’ve already spent a lot of money upgrading my broadband to fiber so I can play the game without any connection issues and I work full time so I personally can’t justify spending any more money just to stop issues like this because someone else’s selfish intentions.
At the moment it seems that my options are:

  1. Do nothing, just roll over and accept it.
  2. Dismantle everything and move.
  3. Abandon everything and move.
  4. Leave the game.
  5. Become like them and cover the planet in pointless structures just to gain prestige.

None of them seem like particularly great options as far as I can see, but I guess that’s how the developers want us to play this game now.

My question still stands though, why can’t we just have an option on our beacon to opt in or out? Why is that not even being considered?

This Opt Out Option would only prevent the name of the settlement being changed. Thats all.
It can’t prevent ppl from building next to you.
It’s still an online game.

There are other ways to make it at least less likely to have neighbors:

  • Build on a Moon or Ring World.
  • Build in the middle of a Lake.
  • Build Underground, In a Cave, On a Mountain Top.
  • Build a flying structure up in the sky.

If you build on a starter world, then it’s going to be full of ppl starting the game. But they come and go.
My very first base (48 plots) had the same Problem. It still exists and it had seen countless neighbors and settlements rise and fall again around it.
Thats your 6th option: Wait until their stuff decays.

I have no problem with having neighbours it’s just when they purposely build right next to you when there is more than enough room in the other directions … this prestige thing needs to be addressed because it’s out of balance …length of time and activity on a plot is not taken into account or the style of build … a Rivendale approach with the buildings enhancing the environment are always going to be beaten by the Mordor approach which is just a load of big blocky castle keep type structures, towers and walls … I know it’s just the name so why is the opt out option such a big no no?

Maybe by default you shouldn’t be able to claim a plot within 4 away from another persons plot, unless they add you to their beacon with a close neighbor permission.
That way no unwanted takeovers and no building too close .
The “close neighbor” would be a new permission Devs would have to add. And the buffer zone exclusion from plot claiming.

That is the first sensible solution I’ve heard so far, I would definitely go for that idea … hopefully the developers read these posts and like your idea too

Reading this i would actually like to ask and know…

What happense when someone deletes a character… do those plots and items get deleted instantly? or are they still in the game for the time that the ebacon has been fuled for?

The beacon and plots are immediately removed and anything left in place is at the mercy of looters and world regen

This person has already assimilated a few tiny homes nearby and I tried talking to him last night but apart from an initial hi and a couple of smiley emoji from him he just ignored me and carried on building … i get the feeling he’s had a little taste of power and is now going to keep forging ahead and as I’ve said before I’m pretty far from any other builds so his proximity to me as apposed to all the free surrounding space seems pretty deliberate.

What world are you on?

I dont think its a big no no. Just not implemented yet (in that form or another - but am sure there will be further developments in this regard). I am looking forward to that option (or something similar a long as it can fix the annexation problem) being introduced myself.

I’m on Therka

I hope you’re right, it would be nice if a developer could give a little hint to this affect just to reassure people that it is being worked on perhaps they could also look at the prestige weighting because it seems far too in favour of block builds rather than a lot of other factors … i know it’s a complex issue so isn’t something that can just be fixed overnight
