Progression Linearity

All, I appreciate the feedback on leveling speed but if you’re not level 50 please don’t claim the “leveling speed is fine”. It’s not. When you get to 50, you’ll see that it’s 200K XP per level forever after and this renders the secondary specs absolutely, 100% worthless for at least the next 6-12 months. In order for leveling past 50 to be even remotely enjoyable and satisfying, you will need to do nothing but +range-forged topaz bombs and a teaching pie and, even with this, you’re still looking at a loooooooooooong time before you’re level 100.

The leveling from, say, 1-30 is fine. At 30 it really starts slowing down a bit. At 40 it starts to get pretty painful. At 50, it’s ridiculous given the fact we have something in the Exchange for dual-specs. If this is going to be the speed at which people level after 50 then change the reward for leveling to just coin + cubits, allow additional specs to use the exact same 100 skill points you earned from 1-50.

It’s supposed to be like that. Once you’ve reached max level it’s supposed to take a ridiculously long time so that you have something to continue working towards for a very long time. If you don’t want to wait until you have enough levels past 50 to really spec out another skill tree, use an alt character. I have 3 characters right now and am not at all concerned with skill sets after max level. Don’t get me wrong, once I’ve put several thousand hours in it will be nice to consolidate them to one account with skill trees, but that’s not supposed to be reached quickly by any standards. The system is working correctly. The game just released. Everyone needs to chill with wanting endgame content accessible within the first few days. It’s not supposed to be easily accessible. That’s the whole point.

Progression could be fine without server killing you because desync, bugs, random reasons.

Teleporting you in lava
Ridiculous fall damage for no reason
Mobs killing you after their death
Mobs spawning above your position and oneshot kill you.
Meteor auto-targeting (sometimes no chance to avoid them) waaay above your capacity to clean them.
Technology locked. Sorry dude no more progression. Please go die and loose XP on tier 5-6 planet hell.

When you pile up all these things, the game progression is a pure mess.
The only way I enjoy the game is by building simple stuff. Everything else is a big pain.

You asked… So personally, I would want about 5 to 6 hundred.

How long did it take you to get to level 50?

You are a much more patient soul than I am… .

Idk man, I’ve been playing a since the 7th and I’m lvl 25 on 2 characters. It’s really not that bad. I dont even focus on my level and before I know it I have 1-2 level ups, I just play the game and it comes when it comes.

Wait till you hit level 35 and the XP penalty increases as well as XP requirement :stuck_out_tongue:

Funnily enough that’s just my point; I miss that

and before I know it I have 1-2 level ups

At the lower levels progression is something you hardly think about; sooner or later you’ll have the skill points to do what you want. Very soon that will grind to a halt.

Hi i am new and my main is 50+7 right now after around 300 Hours casual Play, what others call grinding.
Building my Project.

My 2nd char is lvl 45, after 4 days, ofc with alot of chiselling, which in my case was needed for the Project.
For the normal Person, who calls Building and getting resources grinding i agree, the levling can get tedious.
For a builder, not so much.
I can make 1 lvl per 4 Hours or 5 Building on my Project, this is on the lvl 50. But the reason to do so is gone.
As mentioned, the skill Points we get after are pointless as a normal Person takes months to get to a SP Level to actual dual spec, so i fully agree, that Needs a change.

And the Auto correct in this Forum is bonkers^^

No. Jesus no. I would literally quit the game.

I would also quit
. . you have to allow for casual and hard core players. If I only got a level or skill points every 10 hours of play then there really is no point. Once again this is a sandbox MMO not just an MMO.

I’d say it took me about 80ish hours to get a level 50 since 1.0 dropped. It probably would have been much faster if I would have focused my efforts into leveling instead of getting all the machines and adv coils. There is a lull between iron and titanium that most people seem to hit in their 30s that makes progression feel like it slows down, but it picks back up with titanium and the centaforged items. 35-40 took me forever.

As an edit, it takes less than 2 hours per level at 50 to gain another level, even with the xp changes made today.

what is your main activity in which you make lots of xp?

That’s about how long it takes me at level 40.

I agree. The fact that at level 35 I might have to spend another 100 hours to get to level 50 is extremely demotivating. To be clear I think in regular play with all the exploring and other things I am told I should be doing to enjoy the experience it should take 100 hours from start to level 50.

It will take me well beyond that. And even more after today’s update.

I do find that my interest is not as high as when we started in August. I just feel stuck trying to level to get 5 skill points for some of the epic skills. I am not bored when interacting with other players but I certainly do not get xp for discussing pricing or helping a new person find the closest portal hub.

Mainly mining and then crafting.

japp, the crafting gives a lot as well, especially if you compile all the mats you got while mining, even the stones itself

I already agree with your post & liked it to try and show as much but I feel the same could be said in addition of tool progression. I’ve spent many nights now looking for gems and titanium and come away disappointingly near empty handed. Hitting the atlas, going to the right depths, enduring the XP nerf for mining and spending hours and hours for so little reward.

I’m thinking of just quitting I’m so frustrated. I recognise I’m also in a bad mood anyway this evening but I just put a few hours in and felt like I’d just endured a big grind for very little. Levels slow right down, tool progression slows right down, any decent XP path feels like it’s nerfed. The aim is apparently to be balanced but balanced so all activities give the same excruciating XP and reward.

I long for ~U192 progression, resources and tools. The game has gone from fun into a grindy stinker and I’m pretty fed up with the feeling of banging your head against a rock wall.
