Right now I have an alt for gathering and 1 for mining (and a crafter).
Since the 2 do basically the same type of jobs, just with different tools, materials etc I was thinking it might be a good idea to just create a skill page on my miner and use it for my gathering skills.
That way I have 1 character that dies all my mining and gathering.
I’m finding myself switching back and forth between the 2 a lot and figure it’d be easier to just have the single character.
I remember reading something about not be able to wipe skills after a certain level.
Also, if I use the ‘reset skill page’ option, do I get back all my spent skill points?
On a side note, I’d also like to do the same with my food crafter.
Have 1 do the good and a skill page for my brewing needs.
Skills can be reset for free prior to level 20. After that it uses cleanse points. Characters also have 2 or 3 (can’t recall off the top of my head) full resets which blank out all skills so you can realign them as you want.
In regards to miner and gatherer characters or skill pages I use one character for both these jobs on one skill page. It’s a heavier focus on mining so general gathering is slower than having a specialist. Several of the miner and gatherer skills overlap depending on your build style. Both paths benefit from power, damage epic, and things like luck (to a smaller degree in certain circumstances).
Some people will build for optimal damage, others will sacrifice damage for action speed, others will focus on a non-aggro build with movement speed. All depends on personal preference and what level planet you are on.
For the food vs brews I’ll let someone else handle that as ive only dabbled in low level brews
Like @DonBab stated you can have upto 3 skill pages per character, however it takes 15 mins to switch between the two if you arent in your beacon. If you are in your beacon, you can switch between them at anytime. I cant quite remember if it has to be in your home beacon or not hopefully someone can clarify that.
There is an important thing to understand about alternate skill pages that isn’t well explained to new players: You do not get to redistribute skill points from one page onto another. For example, if you have 75 points and you buy another page you don’t have 2 pages with 75 points each, you have 2 pages and 75 points to spend between them. (so you can have one with 50 and one with 25 for instance.) For this reason, it is usually better to use alts until your characters get above 50 when they will start exceeding the 100 point limit for a single page.
To add to what @peregrine said you would need a lvl 75 character to fill up two skill pages completely since after lvl 50 you gain 4 skill points rather than 2 each time you level up. 100 skill points per page.
This might be a stupid question… but seen as you keep gaining skill points after level 50 is it possible to fill up every single skill on one character?
You earn 2 skill points per level until level 50 so thats 100 skill points total for one page. After level 50, you earn 4 skill points every level so to get another 100 points you need to reach “lvl 75”. Essentially once you reach “lvl 100” you will have 300 points total to spend in 3 skill pages. Does that clear things up?
I settled on 2 main toons (after experimenting leveling 7 to 50)
1 main toon has skill set for mining, crafting and building which all bring in loads (!) of exp points so I can buy loads of plots (Have almost 5k plots on this toon). This has proved, to me, very successful way of acquiring plots.
2nd toon is a hunter and gatherer…don’t do these half as much as no.1 toon.
ahh okay, but can you only spend 100 points per skill page? I’m only level 25 at the mo and just starting to level up my first alt so it’s all a bit confusing still
Yes, you can only spend 100 skill points per page and you can have at most 3 pages per character. Dont worry too much about leveling. Ok well Yes you can use 1 char for all your gathering needs BUT I found myself forgetting to switch and looking at my hammer saying “What is wrong with this hammers dmg?!” I forged it so I know its good then I do /facepalm Oh Im on axe skills Doh! So for me I find its best to designate hunter/Axe Hunter/Hammer Hunter/ Shovel on 3 chars so I know who gets what tools and I know their jobs. Just helps me keep things straight.
I know you might be asking “why all hunters too?” Thats just in case I see meteors it always pays to switch to hunter if needed. Sometimes even minning you get in a cave and theres some mobs in there so good to switch to hunter n make quick work of them.
