You cannot start furnace if you add smartstack of different timbers as a fuel.
Yeah, it’s a weird issue.
You need to separate the different types of wood. A smart stack of only Ancient, only Lustrous or only Twisted wood works, but any combination of different types in a smart stack doesn’t. Same issue when trying to turn stacks of trunks into charcoal.
Would be great to see a fix for this in a future patch.
If the stack of say, ancient wood, were different colors, would that also matter? I’ve never actually tried using wood for heat source yet.
You can use one kind of timber with different colours, but not more than only one kind.

On the flip side if you have different types of metals in the furnace they won’t smelt until you remove all but 1 type.

But in this case you can start furnace with one stack of copper in it and after add iron. When all copper will be smelted then condition “only one kind of metal” will be realised and iron will smelt continuously. I not absolutely sure but tried this method for multiple time
