Storms: Elemental Forces of Boundless

Now, I understand that at this stage of the games development, we have really stopped talking about game features and have moved on to game functions and the nitty gritty of the game. This is by no means an official thing, but I just had the idea and want to see what you guys think of it.

Storms in Boundless are fairly mundane. Yes, theirs rain and deep echoing thunder, and I really enjoy building with the growl of thunder in the background. But with the introduction of the Boundless “Elements”; Blast, Burn, Chill, Shock, Toxin, Corrosion, and the mystical Rift, Oort, Blink and Dark, I’ve had an interesting idea.

Could we Have “Elemental” Storms?

Now obviously we have Chill and Shock in the forms of blizzards and Thunderstorms, but could there be Fire storms? Toxic Fog/Smog? Corrosive Rain? Powerful Wind Storms (Blast)? It would be more of a Hard core world thing, but I think that it would be very interesting.

Blizzards: Cold Weather storms causing damage to stamina and then to health, as well as a drastic drop in temperature. Can cause build ups of Snow on the surface but not block damage.

Blast Storms/Wind Storms: Non-damaging storm that can happen on any world. Causes increased stamina drain when running into the wind and decreased stamina drain running with it. If on a Desert world, it will create a Sand Storm which reduces visibility to 15-10 blocks. If on a Cold world, will increase frequency of blizzards.

Fire Storms: Only can occur if lava lakes are precent on the surface/ Volcanos. Acts as a Corrosive rain storm and a Sand Storm, reducing visibility and damaging players caught in the open. Will only damage burnable blocks if storm is Severe.

Toxic Fog: Occurs on humid/Jungle Worlds. Behaves like fog but damages players lightly but incredibly quickly and for a set time after leaving the fog. Can be avoided in completely sealed houses. Does NOT damage native plants and animals, but will kill foreign plants and animals.

Corrosive Rain: Similar to Fire Storms, Corrosive rain falls from the sky, damaging players, Plant life, and animals. Animals would go for shelter under trees of in caves, while grass would be slowly killed before regrowing.

This is just an idea, and of coarse is not official. Looking forward to Feed back, and I hope to see what you guys come up with!

I really like the idea of elemental storms, fits well with some of the survival elements we’ve been talking about.

It’s a great idea! That can seriously diversify survival aspect and breathe fresh sense into word “PvE”

Yup, like them all

Great idea. Now how do we incorporate those mystical elements? Maybe make dark an eclipse or something? I honestly don’t know.

I’m actually thinking about something for that.

Rift Storms: I think should just open a lot of rift portals to random locations on the world, some good, some bad, or just a ways away from the players location.

Oort Storm: Same idea as the Rift Storms, but to completely different worlds. These would be incredibly rare, and would serve for players that are having a ton of trouble finding Oort Stones.

Dark Storms: A Dark horizon spanning cloud that brings with it an increased spawn rate of monsters or corrupted enemies (NOT hostile animals. There is a difference!)

As for Blink, I’m not entirely sure of what that should be. But this is just an idea. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I just thought of something for blink. What if shards (I don’t know what of yet) fall from the sky in 1’s at a decent speed so you can dodge, but if u get hit u are teleported somewhere around the world or maybe a different world. These too, would be rare.

Great idea, It would add to gameplay so much, as well as make it stand out from other games. Lets pick this idea open!

about the planets in boundless. there will be many different planets with they’r unique biomes. will there be planets that are totally friendly or hostile, or every planets are the same with its dangerous and friendly biomes? also will there be same starting planet where every new player will spawn and start hes journey to the boundless universe or randomly spawned to the planets all around the boundless world?

I think there will be more than one starter planet

I’m not sure about the starting planets, but I do think I know about the friendly/hostile planets. It all comes down to how they were made in the world builder. If you made a lush grassland area with trees and caves, then chances are it’s fairly friendly. If you make s planet who’s surface is scorched and glassed, then I’m pretty sure it will be harder.
