Something shield-like would still be nice though. 
Nope, spear/lance and slingbow are the two weapons.

Hey, I’m seeing some quads combined with triangles in the hands, joints and especially in the head of that awesome hunter model. I’m very curious to know how that will work in animations.
Only time tells, we will see it eventually
