I always liked the idea of being able to upgrade your existing tools to make new ones… so, you could start with a wooden axe, but there could be 2 recipes to create the stone axe… one way would be using the normal recipe it is now (sticks and stones), the other would be to just use stones and your existing wooden axe (and the wooden axe is consumed in the process).
One add to the wood tool (that I also don’t really like):
We all will probably maximum see it for the first 10 minutes of the game
@Smoothy had a great idea. Somewhat like putting a lightsource like a lamp on a stick. Like a lantern. My crafting idea was to put the illumunated cube we have from the beginning onto the stick (first basic form of a staff.) For this one could use a basic fabric made out of plants. Knot the fabric, stick and cube together and enchant it with a a basic spell. Mnot so sure if anyone would like this way of crafting, i think it’s an interesting idea.
Shoutout to @luke-turbulenz for having about ten times more patience than I do!
Okay… That freaks me out
… what is MSN?
About this whole Wide but shallow, thing: Isn’t the whole "only one melee and one ranged weapon but a million of variations exactly the opposite?
By focusing on increasing the variety of the single weapon and focusing on creating variations of each creature instead of creating a lot of different ones they ensure depth to the individual items. That seems to have been a part of the design-plans for quite a while.
You know one of those things that micrsoft keeps insisting on but everyone ignores (kinda like Bing, actually mostly because of Bing really)
Oh, right. Gottit
I’d say no.
If there are a million variations but each one is equally good, just different, then it’s exactly what I’d call wide but shallow.
That creates a shallow tech tree sure but it creates deep gameplay as choosing between these to fit the situations will become more important.
Question out of ongoing topics here
IF there won’t be overall world reset for the next big update, will I be able to transport my current materials towards the new worlds?
Furthermore some proposals for upcoming updates @james @olliepurkiss :
-
the sound of axe hitting a tree sounds not quite much like hitting a tree with a heave axe… it’s more like sticking a knife i some piece of wood. Maybe make it sound more full and heavy.
-
bone is an important ressource hard to collect. Especially because it’s necessary for glew, what i can imagine is in many receipts. Maybe think of making it possible for medium fossil to choose if you extract fossil extract or bones from them. Or, if you extract fossil extract you also sometimes get bones. Would be a nice alternative to hunting…

the chisel function could be updated in a way that you can also shape blocks that are in between to blocks (vertical). At the moment it is not possible to shape a block if he has a block above and under. Making som nice shapes impossible. I tried to work around it, but was not possible (tried to make 2 big gleam cones direct to each other in a big cave. But at the point where both peaks should meet each other, I cannot shape blocks anymore since there are blocks above and under.

it would be nice to see the amount of an item, you have in your inventory, when picking it up inventory. So you don’t have to switch back and forth all the time. I.e. I have 20 Sap in my bag, so if I pick up 1 more I see in my screen: YOU PICKED UP SAP [21].
-
also you should be able to see the amount of existing ressources as well as the amount of produced goods in your inventory (at least when hand crafting).
-
delete the bug, that you cannot stack up an existing item in your inventory, when no further free space in your inventory.
i disagree here, there should be items that can be earned only by hunting so fighting monster gets meaning and not everything can be obtained by mining.
Hi @Smoothy,
I believe the majority of the sounds currently in the game are placeholder. We are certainly looking at having more sounds and variety.
It could be an option but that might make crafts and miners too self sufficient. All roles need to add something to the economy. I am sure we will consider more options like this as we start to see how the player economy starts to work.
Will need to check up on this and get back to you.
This might be too much information for a novice who might not understand the values being presented to them on the screen. Might be worth considering this as an advanced option to toggle on or off.
Yeah, it would be nice to see this.
I’ve encountered this issue in many others games and it is an annoying “feature”. We are looking at options that might help with this issue.
Hope that was helpful for you.
Great reply! your answers are as expected throughthought
Just that a number behind a picked up item would be information overload for newcomers is funny hahaha made me love if someone would take long time to understand it. Since with every block the number increases. If you wanna make it as a “toggle on/off” option i am okay with. But I think everyone will use it. If you farm for a certain amount it’s annoying to count your blocks or open the inventory all the time. Who wants that?
And I hope my post was helpful for you! Since the community is still checking for bugs or irregularities
I agree with @Smoothy , since the numbers keep incrementing as you collect more of the corresponding material it should be pretty intuitive to figure out what they mean.
And the added information/convenience would (imo) definitely be worth the slightly increased complexity
There is a benefit for the player by having this extra information but this seems like an advanced player option. So we would need to review this once all HUD elements are in place and see if it fits in or whether there is just too much info on the screen.
Besides, if one of your worries additional to “more complexity” is, that the displayed messages could grow too long, then I actually would leave away the “YOU PICKED UP…”. Just seeing the named item appearing that you collect is imo also sufficient. But that’s esthetic question
Hi @Smoothy
We’ll see how it looks when have all the elements in. Gotta find room for lots of things.
