When does a new player stop being a Noobie?

Regardless of level of knowledge, or however many hundreds of hours you play; if someone watches your YouTube videos and sees you holding a torch you are automatically a newb that needs to learn how the game works. LOL.

Janna understands the reference Haha.

I see these two words being used intermittently: newb and noob (and their variations)

Please don’t forget that a newb is a new person, and a noob is considered an insult.

Might set someone off of you call them a noob.

That being said, I consider it a mix of time and knowledge. A player may have had the game for 5months, but if they only play 3-4 hours a week, I’d still consider them a newbie.
Actually, I guess I still lean more towards the knowledge factor in that determination.
I certainly still learn things. There’s a lot to learn in this game that you don’t even realize until it hits you in the face.

Didn’t know one was worse. I use them both to mean the same thing. But rarely would I ever spell it newb. Maybe it’s just because I always knew it to be noob since I was younger.

I’m closing in on 50 but still inexperienced in and lack knowledge of some stuff. But I think that’s ok, to be a perpetual newbie to some aspects of the game - I am finding that, rather than creating alts and trying to master everything, I’m enjoying myself sticking to what I have learned well, and just using those skills to earn coin to buy whatever else I need.

Yep, and I responded to that post that the remarks were rude. Also, when you are doing a video about starting fresh, you would play as a new player would using torches. “Neebies or Noobs” the title doesn’t matter, a new player needs to see how it would be best to play and spending skill points on light source if you can see fine is, to me, a waste of points when on hammer or axe would be better. I waited until after I had gotten the 5 points on hammer before I took the light source.
For me personally, I have night blindness, so really can’t see in the dark, what some see as dusk or dawn to me would still be very dark. So the light skill is important, for those who have normal vision, it would be personal choice and should not be ridiculed.

I have 6 characters and two of them have 3 full skill sets. One of them also has over 200 spare SPs. I’ve also played for a year and clocked up almost 1500 hours.
And I honestly feel Ive only recently stopped being a noob.

Perception I guess. To me newbie is around level 20-30 where you have learned the basics. Then you are a learner stage. I see myself at that, I am still learning but do not feel I am newbie.
I am now learning, reading older posts on how to forge, what I need to know and do and decide can I do it or let my son do that and I focus on something else. Going to learn how to make the decorative poles and beams. I will be new at that, but not a newbie because I understand how the machines work, the tools I will be using.
No ones viewpoint of a newbie is wrong, just individual perceptions.
Have never heard that the term noob is a insult, it was just another word for a new player. Seen both used and others in different forums, in posts in Steam and even in articles…

I think the light source skill was the first skill I ever unlocked, and I kept it until I was forced to use another skill briefly. I complained the entire time until I changed it back. I need my light skill! XD

I think noob (Or n00b) has been toned down over the years–probably from interchanging it with newb–but at one point it was a very quick way to pick a fight. Ppl got extremely defensive over it.

Did a quick search and found a short article to explain the difference–can just scroll down to the comparison part. I’d have found a funny vid instead, but alas, I’m at work and just on a quick break.

Noob vs newb

People keep trying to make this a thing.

Mostly it’s the same people that seem to get actually offended if you accidentally hit capslock or something.

I have never, ever typed the word “newb” into an actual chat, other than discussing this exact thing.
