On top of what @Ovis said there are a few differences. Different characters have separate inventories, so if you switch what you’re doing a lot and hate shuffling all the equipment when you do, alts have the advantage.
With alts you can also diversify earlier, since it only makes sense to get skillpages after you’re lvl 50+, that’s probably what Ovis meant with instant gratification.
You can also use alts to have characters in different locations. It’s easy to leave a miner alt on an exo, and go craft/farm/whatever back at home without paying for the trip back.
It takes time to switch alts, about 15 seconds every time. Switching skillpages is faster, but it has a 15min cooldown if you’re not in your home beacon. Pros and cons to each.
Personally I have a mix of both, alts and skillpages.
I suppose the best example of a benefit to having an alt is a dedicated Forger / Crafter (although id prefer to get the xp from crafting on my main character for cubits -> plots)
I do have one alt that I use for one reason only, plotting my regen farms. As if you plot a Regen farm with the character in which you’re going to use said farm, you can break the plotted blocks and have to ‘redo’ parts of the farm every now and then lol
So my flregen farms are owned by “Ovis- Farm” which I also think means people on your main characters friends list count towards the footfall? Whereas, if plotted by your ‘only character’ friends do not count towards footfall normally.
Same here but that takes a lot of time. It’s definitely worth it. To have choices anyway. I do mostly all now with one guy but it’s definitely nice to be able when mining on a exo, hunting and such when you have moment “oh man I forgot to start my craft!) log in with another crafter and throw it in, then log back to what you were doing.
Note: the second crafter with 4 skill pages is needed in my opinion to have a spread of different kinds of crafting. This limits the need to cleanse a lot between tools, brews, foods and such. Then have a skill page for forging alone.
I find it very helpful to have a separate character for exos. I can go to an exo, farm a bit, then switch to my main character and leave my alt on the exo to go farm with later if I want. Also I don’t care if my exo guy dies, and I can safely go to an exo or on a hunt while my crafter is safe and sound at home with a teaching pie on.
It’s also handy to not need to switch inventories. And you’re limited to switching skill pages once every 15 minutes unless you’re at one of your beacons.
This, exactly. This is how I played Minecraft. I would play for a few weeks / a month, get burned out and not play for a month or two. Then the cycle would repeat. I wasn’t punished for this in Minecraft. This exact cycle is how I was playing Boundless. Until one day I didn’t log in soon enough to refresh my beacons and everything was gone. I thought “Oh well, at least I have my character skills” and jumped back in…then it happened again. I didn’t play for a couple months mentally dreading harvesting everything all over again. Now it’s happened a third time and I’m done, never to be seen on Boundless again.
Same here. Perhaps it’s the tv? I have hdmi up to my tv via computer before but the vividness on the ps4 is nice. Do you have a really good monitor? That is what I’m missing lol. There is some sick ones out now!
Still to this day I trade Oort or Rift in exchange for items or forging services . I learned fairly quickly that getting Oort from dormant meteors was better then trying to raise coin at low levels to get better gear . As a mostly solo player coin means very little to me .
one of the biggest reasons I cant get friends to join is really just about the character avatars, they think they are weird and ugly and cant stand the idea of playing with these characters, if they brought cats back or added other races they would be far more interested.
In general, they just want characters that can be cute XD
It has not been on sale on PS4 since launch. This has been my biggest hurdle. I have an ever increasing list of people interested if it goes on sale some day.
Also several friends said the same thing Kalisa said, that people find the avatars too ugly and refused to play.
I 10000% disagree with this. As someone who has has played the game with at least an ounce of intelligence… I can say, I put the coin I earned early on back into my shop/guild. I iinvested.
New players today have a huge advantage over the players who started at launch… the gem wall is a lot thinner with a population desperate for new players.
Yes, yes, if you pick a single half sentence out of relevant paragraph from a post 2 months old and deliberately ignore the rest, you are indeed able to make a point that suits your perspective.
Obviously you don’t really feel this way… otherwise my post voicing my own opinion of your post would not have gotten under your skin.
I also scrolled back to re-read your post… I stand by my comment… also I am not the only one who disagreed with your viewpoint.
If you don’t want different opinions from others, why post on the forum at all? Also, perhaps if you have a “time limit” for appropriate responses, you should add that to your post as well…
For example… please respond to this comment no later than April 16th…
Gotten under my skin? At least you got comedy mastered. Granted, I do find your posts a little frustrating, but that’s more about the way you interact with others, not specifically the content of your post.
For example, you’ve jumped to the unfortunate conclusion that the content of your post is what I found worthy of naught but sarcasm. For the record, my problem isn’t what you said or that you had an opinion. It’s the place where you chose to jump into the conversation. You’ve clearly shown that you KNEW there was a whole conversation after that post where people discussed my assessment and my reasoning behind it, with people both agreeing and disagreeing.
If you disagree with my reasoning, that would have been different and I’d have given you a considered (maybe even respectful, but that’s less likely) response. Or if I wanted to repeat a bunch of things I’ve already said in this very thread, I guess I could have wasted everyone’s time. I wasn’t in any way trying to tell you what you can or can’t post, I just chose to shortcut the tedium I would have experienced interacting with people who can’t observe basic forum etiquette.
Speaking of which: Welcome to my ignore list. You’ll like it there, there’s people you’ll really get on with.
How I interact with others? I try daily to be a positive part of this community and spend the majority of my time, coin and effort doing it.
You may choose to judge me off forum posts without actually taking the time to get to know me. I come to the forum via my phone, so I try not to get too wordy. I don’t see what I said that got you so riled up… so, as for the ignore… sounds like a plan.
