Why is portal cost releated with portal size, not distance?

They actually mentioned that you need to download chunks for the world in question in another thread so it works as you would expect (download the chunks from the other world and render locally). So depending on how chunk loading is implemented a bigger portal will only impact rendering or maybe (if chunk downloading takes line of sight into account) require you to download a few more chunks because of a wider field of view.

I fully agree with this solution

I think it has to do with people opening up too many portals and hurting the experience of other players. If they were cheaper to run larger size ones without needing the epic for larger blinksecs, people might spam them maliciously. Although someone could always just invest the time and do it now, it’s less likely IMO.

Who knows why, really? I think the points here makes sense on their own, though.

Maybe it has to do with that if you look.at a portal, It starts to load. So when a portal is bigger…it needs to load soner while it isn’t intended.
