95% AFK - Multiboxing Accounts on Hunts

I am against any form of AFK play.

Just play the game and enjoy.

Just put a 5 minute afk timer that automatically sends you to the sanctum when time is up.

But the afk thing, the thread with my exp farm is kinda stupid as where it should be allowed as long as I press button myself. As for afking on hunt, is it really afk if you just stand still and chat? You are still present enough to see when group moves to next meteor, so are you really afk? Such a gray zone.

This is not the same as fully AFK farm. These alts still have to be walked to portals and moved close enough to the meteor to be eligible to collect said Oort etc. <<<< not fully AFK. Also another copy of the game was bought. AKA revenue was made by Dev. I would suspect that many use for Exoā€™s where you cannot place campfires.

Block exp farms are not fully afk either, you need to build the farm, you need to repair the coils, you need to eat pies.

Afking is gray area, no matter how you do it.

The title is a little confusing, you canā€™t really fully AFK an alt on a hunt.

This is multi-boxing and itā€™s still something that is considered an issue in some games, not in others.

That always seems to depend somewhat on just how actually idle the activity is, and here that can be a broad spectrum. For instance manning a summoning platform, itā€™s truly idling a character. In a hunt you still have to manage how many you are dragging around, protect them, etcā€¦

If you can walk away for some time and take gains thatā€™s a different issue. Multi-boxing, or not.

Totally get it and as I said Iā€™ve done it and Iā€™d continue to do it if it is not against TOS. Itā€™s up for some definition, but each one of us has a different opinion and definition on what is fair and what is actually AFK. I suppose it is up to Monumental to determine this I for one find it unfair for one person to collect double/triple the amount of loot as other players in a hunt, but at the same time totally understand that it creates larger meteors for the group.

I use my sonā€™s account and while I could argue that all of his loot would go to him, it doesnā€™t, it simply goes to my stash and I support the two of us (when he plays, which is seldom).

Gray areaā€¦maybe. But Monumental can simply say no AFK accounts during hunts, which is multi-boxing which I imagine would include software that creates VMs on the same box. Hell, we all want more Oort and more loot to sellā€¦ I just seem rather on the fence on how I feel about multi-boxing to accomplish this.

The game allows this type of farm to be built, but it was stated it was against TOS. Fully AFK or not I suppose that is irrelevant now.

Title corrected.

It wasnā€™t actually stated the farm was against the rules, using it while AFK was against spirit of the game.

Havenā€™t used it since because I cba holding keys down myself but itā€™s there for glory.

I for one totally applaud the farm even though I am against it. That ā€œgray areaā€ thing.

Yeah and I mean, for as long as there is no official word then itā€™s fair game. Itā€™s a sandbox game after all. But this will surely be addressed when they (hopefully) get up to speed.

Today I learnt a new term - had never come across multiboxing before. This thread has now made me wonder about the Valentines event, assuming itā€™s going ahead - nearly all of us bring our alts to flower-exchange events in order to trade as many bouquets with others as we can. I mean, I have fond memories of the first Valentines event, and running around the Ultima Finata shopping mall with a bouquet of roses in one hand and my axe in the other  but the trading events are a lot more efficient

Itā€™s one of the things Iā€™ve questioned for a good bit, but here is the thing that I keep saying. I have fun with the game and always have. At one point I didnā€™t know about the multi-boxing, the AFK XP Farms or any other possible exploits, shortcuts or other ways of ā€œgetting a step aheadā€ and had fun then also. In the end, itā€™s all about perception and what you consider a morally right way to play the game on a personal level.

It makes you wonder how many people had an AFK XP farm going for years and gained tons of cubits and bought more and more plots not to mention numerous other things gained in other ways. Again, itā€™s perception, because the game allowed for such things and wasnā€™t prevented or enforced.

In all honesty, with a game that very well felt abandoned and given very little context as to its future whatever people wanted to do, they could and pretty much could do it without any repercussions.

I just play the game and didnā€™t want myself or any of the people in the community to get a ban hammer for whatever reason and with a comment on ā€œNot wanting Boundless to be an AFK gameā€ it made me worry about myself and numerous people I know (and donā€™t know) that have at least once brought multiple accounts to hunts.

Bob out!

Donā€™t forget about the flag button :kissing_heart:

I wonā€™t flag ya. I actually seldom flag anyone.

If @QuimbyBoundless got banned out the blue for zero explanation due to his XP farm, I think itā€™d be pretty bad especially considering I am aware there are several others.

On top of that, I know of many of us that have at one time, or another brought multiple accounts on hunts, and I prefer to get some stance from Monumental ā€¦prior to losing more player base. If caring about the player base is whining ā€¦ guess, Iā€™ll continue to whine.

Glad Bob gave his input though

People just constantly bringing up things that they think should be addressed by the new development team and requesting their input on the subject BEFORE any new updates even come to light is not helping the player base, atleast not in my opinion. Feels more like it would just annoy a large amount of people cause itā€™s a lot of all that is seen anymore. It more feels like nitpicking and stabbing a wound with a hot pocker.

Be aware this is all from my point of view. Everytime I see another thread about complaints or criticism on a aspect of how someone enjoys the game just drives me further away from wanting to even return.

The game is built for alting, itā€™s practically a requirement. Multi-boxing isnā€™t just having alts, itā€™s using multiple machines or VMs to have multiple accounts online and being operated by a single player at one time. Sometimes manually or sometimes using software to duplicate the identical actions across several VMs on the same PC.

Switching from alt to alt and doing things with them is not multi-boxing and obviously itā€™s not AFK Play.

To be honest on both of these issues, the majority of players can just keep doing whatever it is they do and itā€™s going to be fine. If youā€™re doing something to gain extra advantages or multiply existing advantages and it feels shady, it probably is.

But again most of the time the people who are doing that sort of thing are fully aware of what theyā€™re doing. If someone introduces you to an activity and you feel that itā€™s probably ā€œcheatingā€ or in some way ā€œtaking advantageā€ that might be something to consider. But generally if youā€™re just logging in on your own account and operating your avatars manually - thereā€™s nothing to be concerned about.

TOS usually comes first ā€¦ and I am pretty sure a new TOS will probably come to light prior to ANY new development. It would be in their best interest to write a new TOS prior to any new players joining also.

:eyes: pretty sure and probably doesnā€™t sound to concrete to be honest. I think we should just let the new devs come to there own conclusions when they are ready to engage the community more regularly. Until then I think the small player base should also just continue having fun in game the way they want. If you donā€™t want afk hunters specify that before the hunt. And if the hunt is on a sovereign boot the people you donā€™t want there. :man_shrugging::v:

Agreed on the AFK hunters. I personally donā€™t mind if other people want to break the rules or not, I just want to make sure Iā€™m not. If people want to risk a possible ban that of course is their choice. As I stated, I have used my sonā€™s account on my sonā€™s laptop to get ā€œbigger meteorsā€.

Iā€™d just prefer to know how Monumental feels prior to doing it again. I would hate to see people getting banned.

As do I.

your last sentence is pretty much all Iā€™ve ever done with this game  I love playing, a few grindy things Iā€™d like to change, an aoe tool to plant crop seeds for eg, but they arenā€™t enough to stop me playing. Up until today, however, I didnā€™t know about multi-boxing so every time something came up about having alts on hunts always had me confused.
