My point! This is not the place to promote it.
âOther gamesâ is where its promoted and can be promoted much like anything and directly comparing the two games here is fair, its not me promoting the game, it is simply stating that is what a successful game and company does, care about their community, communicate, advertise and develop.
One day maybe that happens here.
Other games should be used to announce other games with a little bit of background but not promote it every chance in another games forum.
Boundless got a certain vibe and pull that no other game has I believe. Itâs the sense of community through working together via shops, supply, hunts, events, for that next big build someone wants to create. Itâs not the game that failed, itâs the parents that didnât take care of it. Just my opinion. Maybe we will get adopted, shown some love eventually.
Thereâs been numerous ideas past few years for devs to increase the population.
As @Dhusk said this game is basically on passive mode just to keep lights on.
I guess the only thing makes sense them to buy those games is to sell the data for other companies.
If you care that much form a team and make your own game like boundless and you will become greatful that they are keeping the lights on. That games just a hype no one will be talking about it in the next few months
- New Player Experience. Starter hub to go over the basics of the game.
- Make the game free to play.
- Finish the Swords and Shields update.
- Get some group content added.
- Add some life into the game. Gathering its grindyâŚlike terribly grindy. Do some ARPG elements to combat to bring some flavor to the boring combat.
I donât want to make my own Boundless type game for a few reasons. One being it is a long process, its a bit shorter these days if you leverage AI to make things a little more effecient. Another reason, is time, I work full time, married, kids, and I just donât have the time dedicate to making a game. I also think a game needs a team or one person that knows how to do every aspect, to which I do not, even though I like to think I do at times. I have offered to do some coding for Boundless for free as I do have time for that.
I am grateful to Monumental for keeping the lights on though. I also thank @jon-eric quite often as he deserves that and has helped behind the scenes with things people donât know or see. But, none of that makes up for the failures, promises that have yet to be kept, and lack of communication.
As far as Hytale and hype, sure its a lot of hype and deservedly so, but we can see how it is in a few months ![]()
The crazy thing is, a person can play more than one game and Iâll continue to play Boundless until I cant, but Iâll always be critical about how things have been handled. I think someone else said it best from another game I used to play:
âEvery new disappointment chips away at your enthusiasm until youâre left wondering why youâre still investing emotional energy and time into something the people in charge clearly stopped caring about long agoâ
I remember before some of the devs left James company, that they introduced the modding system or how to do it. It seemed complex to me, but some people were attempting to do it. Nothing ever came out via mods. There was a video or instructions that James put out about making mods for the game. Some OG players were attempting to do it but I am not sure what the wall they hit was. Any info on that? Jiivitaâs video here.
I had watched this a few times in the past and its pretty cool.
Boundless is a different animal than a lot of games and it is both a good and bad thing. Itâs a live-service game and everyone plays together in a single universe. For mods to work currently, a mod would have to be made by the community and put on the server by a developer. It is not a whole lot different than building new worlds and then giving them to Jon-Eric to upload. Mods could be possible, but maybe not everyone would want that mod, so you would have to have some sort of approval and review process in place, much like I think uploading worlds should have the same process. Otherwise, we get people upset and quitting the game which has already happened.
When you have a game like Minecraft, Conan, Hytale or any games where each server is separate, mods can be made and downloaded and placed on a server by the server owners and even by players that just want to add it to their local game. I am sure most everyone is aware of this, but I wanted to mention it. That said, you can daisy chain Minecraft servers and you can also do the same with Hytale servers to connect to other servers, however in MC youâd have to have the same mods on all the connected server, Hytale went a step beyond, and the mods donât have to match. So, in essence you can create your own universe however you want.
Anyways, if we canât even get an update to the game, even something as minor as new blocks, I wouldnât count on mods, but I always remain hopeful.
Thanks for your Insight.
A lot of good information. I have python but have not worked with Luna. Looking forward to learning the basics of Luna. Thanks. I wonder if Gemini or Claude can code something up?
It could for LUA but keep in mind. Despite the forum stating you can customize the game, the API is VERY limited. Most mods created were UI or shop/web based. We got standalone servers in the testing branch but that has been defunct for years as well ![]()
Glad there is some modding, but the kind of modding Boundless needs are more mods that allow you to add more blocks, more creatures, new automations, machines, just things that add more content. Tweaks to see meteors from a further distance and UI tweaks arent the type of mods the game needs at this point, even though they are very helpful. The game needs a better new player experience, more content, active development, and advertising to get more players.
