Can anyone explain what they exactly do? Armour seems to be flat reduction of damage from given attack. And what about resistance? Is it luck based? You get X% to resist damage? Or rather % that reduces damage after armour reduction? Or something completely different?
resistance is the %chance to take 0 damage from that attack type if it proc’s (best you can get without food is 50%)

wouldnt say its useless,just more for tank type class/playstyle,certainly has its uses,with food you can reach 70-80% chance to take 0 dmg from attacks which when titans/dungeons with bosses are added in it could be good,not much content in the game at mo that demand it.
my little bro has resist on hit character and see most of the hits he takes = 0 dmg it made soloing meteors for him a breeze vs me who doesn’t have it.
I have Armour on me, and mostly get 0 damage too. If there are no wildstock at the moment, I can go make a coffee and get back to finish meteor, all the time getting pummelled from all sides for 0 dmg.
Tank do not rely on chance to not get hurt. It’s either passive damage reduction (like armour in boundless) or active mitigation (there is none in boundless that I know off beside rage and brews). I did my share in MMO’s and what I learned is that chance to not get damaged is the last thing tanks would consider over passive or active damage reduction.

In current skill tree, there are better skills to spend points on than resistance, if resistance is chance based. Simple as that.
well mostly its good for the future higher tier planets,especially when we know we will be getting T10-15 planets in time,but yeah that’s why i said at mo it’s not really needed until the harder content comes out as mobs just dont hit hard enough at mo to pick it over flat armor.
oh as someone who played mmos for 10 years definitely agree but it all stacks,i would never pick resist over any other defence form,see it more like icing on the cake if you have everything else covered.
I also think that if there will be lvl 10 - 15 planets, and hunting is to remain fun, then they will have to rework combat and skill tree in general.
I personally think the entire combat system will have to be reworked eventually. It needs to be made into an actually rpg combat system. Right now the combat system (or lack thereof) is my biggest turn off for this game.
I can semi-agree that with few mob types and fighting styles the combat system is more than just a little lacking. There was talk of lances from 2016 which were literally removed leaving us no real melee weapons. Once a lot of these bugs are taken care of I imagine this will be the next focus (bosses, instances and combat).
I personally hate the resistance armor buff. I don’t like gambling chances to not take damage and even with level 5 on defense you still take a lot of damage from elite wildstock and cuttletrunk missiles. My bet tactic is fast speed, high damage and don’t get hit. When rock bashers and titans enter the fold I imagine we will need a better tank/defense system.
