Beacon Restoration Aura

The purpose of the Beacon Restoration Aura (BRA) is to minimally protect townships and common unprotected land areas from greifing by providing a restoration capability. The BRA is an extention to the standard beacon functionality.

A BRA is an automatic daily backup of a region of blocks so that they may be restored within 7 days of greifing. Its area of effect is limited to areas outside of and between nearby*** beacons.

The effective range of the BRA starts at zero and expands as nearby beacons from other players are connected together. There can be many overlapping BRA’s well.

These are the possible inter-connections rules:

  1. Beacon A connects to beacon B (master/slave)

    • BRA expands to cover the rectangle between A and B

    • Only beacon B has restoration control

  2. Beacon A connects to beacon B and B connects to A (peers)

    • BRA expands to cover the rectangle between A and B

    • Both beacons A and B have restoration control

  3. Beacon A connects to beacon B and beacon C connects to A (chained)

    • BRA expands to cover the rectangles between A & B, A & C, B & C

    • Only beacon B has restoration control

  4. Beacon A connects to beacon B and A connects to beacon C (multi-master)

    • BRA expands to cover the rectangles between A & B, A & C

    • Only beacon B has restoration control of A & B

    • Only beacon C has restoration control of A & C

BRA: properties

  1. Provides a restore functionality to area’s between nearby beacons

  2. Prevents new beacons with in it’s coverage

  3. Does not prevent placement nor destruction of blocks

  4. Does not control access to these areas nor items within.

  5. Will not restore the contents of any containers.

  6. There will be a limit on restorations per day.

  7. Some rare and valuable blocks will not be included in the restoration…

*** The definition of “nearby” is TBD, but is expected to be shorter than the width of a beacon.

I put that in to stop a greifer from dropping a beacon down in the middle of town and raising hell. It may not be needed though.

Another good thing about the BRA is it could also mark areas where any automatic resource restorations will not take place for the world regenerator. This way, a road or a bridge would not suddenly disappear.

Bra, huehuehuehue… I’m lonely :sleepy:

That sounds great. Something like this would have certainly helped us on Yugen.
