Biome selection tips and discussion

Figured I’d give starting this thread a try since I’ve seen the whole range of the satisfaction spectrum from people with how their rentals turned out based on what they picked. What this thread is for - any discussion of biome selection results-

Did your choices work out really well, get exactly what you were going for, get something that looks really cool?

Or maybe you misjudged on something, it didn’t go as planned or come out like you thought it would.

Either way, throw in your experience, share pics, ect., could even screenshot all your selections if you managed that perfect gem mine world - maybe it will help somebody else trying!

In my own case, on my first rental, though on the whole I LOVE it, I did make one misstep - which has led to some fatal missteps! :flushed: Taking the Trench biome. Seems (correct me if wrong) some of these biomes get overlaid on each other… I managed to create in one place with the big canopy trees quite possibly the biggest deathtrap the Oortiverse has seen to date. Huge trunks with pitfalls down like 60 m to a fiery death hidden nicely in between!

(Feel free to edit category, put General as this could be applied to both Sovereign and Creative but might be better in something other than General)

I selected the patterned rivers on a planet & it wasn’t what I expected. So far I haven’t noticed any pattern to any areas of water on the planet. :woman_shrugging:

I’m letting a Tier 2 expire because it generated with holes that will break your legs & river cliffs that would make Beckon proud. I tried to select the flattest biomes that I could (from the thumbnails).

I got one planet that I reaaaallly     , but it orbits the worst possible planet that it could lol (still keeping it).

My t5 metal came out pretty much as expected based on the biomes I picked. Only issue I have is some of the lava rivers are too wide to traverse so mapping the planet is going very slow.

Lots of strong and mighty mobs around, large swathes of growth and mold, no major ravines or death pits, lots of ground resources. Metal concentration is a tad lower than I expected but still decent.

Only disappointment I have is I don’t have the colors I really wanted. Some are close so an acceptable compromise, but most I’ll be biding my time on to reroll in a few weeks.

Haven’t been able to do anything on my t3 coal yet as it just popped this morning. Based on the biomes I selected it will probably be my main building world. Fingers crossed its it’s a good one.

Our first world, didn’t turn out at all the way we chose. We wanted less liquid surface(like smaller rivers) and instead we got ocean sized lava(which we chose lava) and don’t get me started on the trench death traps lol, we wanted the ancient ruins didn’t see one, asked for gleam blls got those but they were all over the oceans of lava lol, so now we got a second world the actually turned out better… was it the overflow of requests or simple foul up on the game :man_shrugging:

On my creative, I was trying to get a desert planet to build on. Instead I got a very mountainous planet. Following recommendations not to let the planet be too boring I had added Desert Canyon and Wall Caves as biomes. I am hoping those are the culprits that created a chain of mountains literally spanning entirely around the planet. I also added Savannah and think it added to large an area with grass and deciduous trees. I cannot even identify the beach biome I picked on the plant. Next time I go with boring.

This is definitely a planet I am letting expire and trying again.

My planet is about to collapse. Cracks and holes deep in the lava. No matter where you are, there are cracks.

It’s a T5 planet and it feels more like running parkour! It has become a death planet and a fatal mistake!

The thumbnails show NOTHING! There is no preview or assistance. Pure - but absolutely pure gambling!

I pulled a rivet out of my planet lootbox that cost me money. I hate my planet.

I wanted a flat planet with maybe a few mountains. I didn’t click anything with cliffs or holes - only flat levels or slight elevations.

My planet is the exact opposite of what I hoped for.

What’s a good biome for gravel?

I have too many hazardous regions for my taste. On the other hand, there are some wonderful groves of giant redwoods that make the rest just a scenic background I can ignore as the sun rises over them on the far side of some lazy waterways, and some nice hilly areas with mould-and-fungus trees that are pretty.

Next one I’ll go for even more sedate surroundings if I can.

Aren’t T5+ planets SUPPOSED to be difficult to traverse?

If you can generate a flat and safe/quick to traverse t5+ sov that’s pretty unbalancing.

would be nice to at least know how caves are made. I did some experimenting, got planets that are nearly identical, one has barely any caves, other one is basically a sponge.

also more pics and info in biome selection
