And then they f***ed the backers over and made Planetary Anhialation: Titans.
Now PA is a strategy game and not an MMO which makes quite a big difference when talking the necesary amount of people to make it fun.

I had now sometime to think about the whole issue and I also thought back to the time I bought Oort.
I wasn’t sure if I should buy it. I mean 95$ is a lot of money, at least for me, to pay for an early access. But the game looked fantastic and the devs were so open. In the end I thought I could trust them and bought Oort.
After that point the journey Oort took looks a bit like a deformed sine curve to me.
Let me explain what I mean by that. The Devs tried different things. Sometimes we all were blown away (ok yea most of the time) and sometimes we thought it could be better or that we were betrayed again by another game company. But until now they always managed to get back to zero level and beyond if they had fallen.
And if I can play the finished game and don’t think: “■■■■, they really screwed us over with that one!” while seeing someone with the backer-skin. Then they did it again.
I mean everyone makes mistakes and I want to believe them, that this whole issue is based on bad communication and the result of all the shitty things the gaming industry did the last years. They didn’t to anything until now that made me loose the trust in their word.
I for one wait now until we know what our races will be able to do and what the exclusive race (hopefully skin will come closer to what it will be in the end) will be able to do.

Because, Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander would never release expansions.
I played Everquest for years. If my memory servers me it took about 6 people to really have fun.
Meh. In the words of Lex Luthor: “I don’t like working on teams. Everyone’s got an opinion.”
In City of Heroes I played solo (unless my super-group was on, and that was a carefully-crafted group). I don’t do a lot of teaming in Star Trek Online because, really, how often did the Enterprise need seven other ships along to get the job done?
I don’t even like working on software teams of six. Like the man said, everyone’s got an opinion.
Of course, in my world, I’m the architect, and what I say goes. It’s a good thing I’m on the side of Justice and Order-up-to-a-Certain-Point.

well you can’t have EVERYONE play as oortians, right? I’m assuming that’s the race they’re talking about. if you want to keep a race rare, that’d be the way to do it.

You beat me to the punch. I just realized while explaining the changes at dinner that the Oort might be the special race. Note in this early concept art the Oortian is show by other proposed playable races. Why take the time to draw a character that wont be in the game? Furthermore, why assign it a gender? Perhaps the Oort aren’t completely gone, more like they were wipe out like the Jedi and a few stranglers remain. Exciting possibility!

While walking around my house ranting, another though came to me. Expanding off my speculation. Perhaps the “Developer World” is the last occupied Oortian city. That would explain why it might be worth 5K to be able to live there.
Also, in a separate thread. I asked what the devs look like in game, now that the purple blocks have found dead with Lester. Their reply was “We were pants on our head”. If you examine the top of the Oortians head closely you will see what resembles a pair of upside down pants coming of the top of his head.

Why not making the race to be unlocked when reaching a certain (high) tier ingame for all users but the backers of that level can play it from the first start? … that would sound more reasonable to me and may prevent a shitstorm of “greed&paytowin” discussions on the steam forums and other places

F*****g Sick! Were the first words out of my mouth after watching that masterpiece.
I would like to go ahead and say I totally called it. They have been holding back a dam of content. 112 was just to round us all back up for this premier. Watch next we will be seeing announcement about a major update to content.
Congrats on PlayStation that is really exciting, I knew that was the dream but when I saw their name on the video, I was like damn this s**t just got even more real.
That trailer was off the chain. I am still in disbelief of what I just saw. I’m hyping the whole office over that masterpiece. Seriously, were having a screening to show this off.
