If any dev came in and gave even the briefest update about the state of the game, it would be the first time. Repeated attempts from the community for more frequent communication have been consistently ignored.
I am hoping (take this with a pinch of copium) that the new forums are being rolled out ahead of some sort of progress report. After that, i expect it will return to radio silence until something is on the cusp of release.
I understand you would prefer a dev to tell you that themselves, so would I.
My dude, what’s with stating opinion and speculation as fact? It is very likely correct that there won’t be future updates, but stating it like this is inappropriate.
Because many have given up hope and consider it fact when there is no evidence to think otherwise. Anyway, based on speculation, companies like this tend to buy the hardware and rights to the game and just keep it running to get an income stream. It is a lot cheaper to just maintain status quo and trigger premade events than to actually hire developers or do it themselves for possible limited returns. This game is ripe for this because almost all content is automated up to a point or is generated by the players, no need for writers or any additional staff.
What is sad is the update that likely will never be released. I played with it before the sale of the game, when it was available. It worked but mostly needed a UI slapped on to manage the local server, otherwise you had to adjust the configuration files manually. There were probably a few bugs here or there but from what I could see it was about ready for released and only needed a few weeks of development for polish.
I’ve always been of the mindset that where there’s smoke, there’s almost always fire. With Monumental, I see the smoke of inaction, inability to communicate even basic timelines, and a complete unwillingness to be open about the transition of this game we all love. This leads me to what I’ve determined for myself to be a fact that Monumental has no plans and no interest in actually updating this game in any meaningful way and that it’s likely what some have said is the case: that they have some other motive with acquiring these games aside from updating them in the interest of reigniting and ultimately bringing in significantly increased income for them.
Who knows? Maybe the motive is simply to build a large portfolio of games they “own” so that they can get claim to own and maintain said large number of games and therefore look more attractive to investors so they can make their own game in the future. This part is, of course, wild speculation, but I’m kinda at a loss as to what the strategy is here for Monumental.
100%, thank you Rydralain. I’m as pessimistic as the rest of the community at this point, but I’m still not going to state things like this as if they’re fact.
I DO still have hope something will be done to carry on the torch of Boundless, but it’s been so long with effectively zero communication… dunno anymore man.
To be clear, if it wasn’t already, I have little hope for any patches. Any hope I had just got mooshed a bit by Tiggs’ response on the Sanctum bug thread. I have a number of guesses at what’s going on, but who knows. I don’t, and never have, had a problem with the pessimism - it’s just the abuse of language, but I’m not going to press hard like I used to. I already stepped pretty far over the line.
If / when you see this post, please can we have anything? I feel like a beggar on the side of the street asking for crumbs. But even if you literally just tell us “things will progress but I can’t tell you any details legally”, it would be infinitely better than silence.
Weird. I distinctly remember being able to see edit history on posts as a leader, going back multiple edits even. I would think simply punishing those whom abused editing would be better than migrating to a platform with IPBs reputation…
Or they are just buying games, try to keep the games running with as much profit as possible without big investments and use the technology behind it to create a new not-yet-announced MMO that’s even better than Boundless?
I’m no rocket scientist, but implying that they aren’t smart enough to answer the question may not be the best way to get them to answer the question. Cheers, friend!
It seems like similar topics to this one are created fairly regularly. It would be nice if Tiggs could pin something to the top of the forums. As far as I know, this is the latest of the answers she has given to questions like these.
We have been having this conversation for like 5 years now. A pinned post isn’t what these people are looking for. I would bet that many of the people asking for information did see that comment, but it’s old and they may have been abandoned since then. They want regular reminders that the devs aren’t about to shut down the game.
I don’t understand it, but I’m trying to accept it.
