Boundless Unchained

I always like it when I can max out a character.

And am not much a fan of all the alt switching, at all…

But what can we do?

Really wish it was a thing. But do we want Cthulhu? Because that’s how we get Cthulhu…

So any skill that you don’t like to use, ie hunting or mining is clutter skill.

That is a really one dimensional way of viewing what a char can and should do.

So taking your idea at face value, you want all the crafting/cooking/buidling skills to be free, so only skills that let you hit harder and become tougher should be in the game. For those skills not providing an advantage to you, yes they do, in the point that you can craft things that other chars cannot, in the same way that building a tank hunter char can kill survive that cuttletrunk while others can’t.

If this would be a pure single player game, I would agree with you that one char should be able to do everything from the get go, but then I also wouldn’t be playing this game, cause it wouldn’t be the same game anymore not even close.

However you slice this cake, I still do it all whether I have cooking alts or do it all on my main - I just have to switch characters a few more times with the current setup. It’s actually far cheaper Exp-wise to have alts but I would still rather just grind 1 character forever.

I tried once to ask for a better skill tree specially consdering that the current skill tree system seems to contradict the game’s own name, however i got answers like “Game isnt supposed to be easy”, or “Youre supposed to grind”, and many other non helpful comments, but it seems that they like to complain when something gets nerfed like bomb mining, or crafting recipients etc… I totally think the skill tree should be as boundless as the game but it seems the devs and the community doesnt.

I kike the idea of creating skillsets formdifferend purposes.

If i can play a 8000 hp full def/repel char that can run at superspeed, deal tons of damage and still also can mine superfast and can craft everything that would annoy me.

Yes we can have skillsets and multiple chars, the thing i s we still need to chose how to build the hunter, miner, gathere and so on.

Each skillset/char can/must have different playstyles and thats cool.

I vote in support of alts (this isnt like the pants thing i swear). I think it would get boring quicker having 1 super character that can do everything. Theres a fair bit of noise this week about people getting bored and not having things to do, i dont think speeding that up is good for the longevity of the game.

Having a miner that can bake doesnt really change a lot, it takes 10 seconds to swap and as you said its not like youre at mantle baking pies, still have to return home to do anything in another skill tree… except maybe hunting. But again i like that you need to have a purpose leaving the house, if everyone did everything it would lose a lot of that “now im going to do this specific activity for an hour”.

I have 0 emotional attachment to my characters who cares if it’s 1 or 3. Swapping gets old and think of how many times you had to do it, thousands im sure if you’ve played a lot.

I don’t see any merit to the system with your arguement other than “oh its not so bad just work around”.

Seems to me like an abused early specialist thing so you can branch out quick. And a currency sink i guess…

That seems to be the view on a lot of Boundless topics. Why settle for a good game when you could have a great game? Of course, you could suggest raising the sky build limit by 1 plot and inevitably some people would threaten to quit over it.

Thats not what i meant. Im a fan of the grind, and think its a good thing there’s specialised characters that slow progression down.

Not a case of “its not so bad/deal with it”. I think the mechanic is there for a good reason. I assume the devs have deliberately put in a lot of ‘time sink’ factors to extend playtime. Craft times etc dont do anything except slow it down, and personally i like that.

I get bored very quickly once i feel ive “won” and there isnt anything to aim for. This game takes a long time to get to that stage, which i think is great.

That’s what I want, to be able to sink more time into improving my “main” character. Skill tabs, I’d rather not bother with because if you switch from a low health/energy build to a max health/energy build you’re instantly starving to death and spend the next 10 minutes eating/regenerating health if you don’t want to go the expensive route.

It seems like the common theme in a lot of threads now is people want more stuff to do. Some want endgame content. I like leveling things up. Others want new colors/materials to play Legos with. We’re all over the place.

And yes, I view the alts or the ease of making alt as a problem that is hitting the economy at the moment, but on the other hand you can grind your main forever, you never stop gaining skill points, you just need to make multiple skill sets. So then your main can do everything, just not at once. You want it to be all at once and that is where I object to.

If I remember correctly from another post once you max the 3 skill set pages you continue to earn skill points and have nothing to put them into

I see archer references, i upvote.

To OP, I’m in the opposing camp asking for more character limiting progression, merely because i like the economy aspect of the game and wider ability sets would diminish specialization; making it feel like a massive multiplayer solo game to me.

I know and understand that people like and want the opposite too, it seems to depend ultimately on the the devs and their vision for the game which road they will take us down
