Building Ettiquette?

A casual new-ish player here with a situation and a question. I play off and on and like to build and explore a bit and after some rooting around found a spot next to network that gave me easy access to everything from Sorissi through the portals that Hubbit maintains. Well it looks like they abandoned the network access near me and moved it leaving my area sorta stranded, not that I blame them… no one came by and it seemed well off the beaten track which is a waste for them to maintain with no traffic and footfall.

My plots were sorta a learning curve anyway and I can break everything down and move, but I would like to be near that type of access so I don’t need to walk 10 mins to find a portal. I play casually so maintaining my own portal long term and the oort farming is not what I really want, not that I make much to begin with. Not saying I want to leech, I can donate/sell what I get but my oort-flow is not enough to justify my own portal. So my question is:

If I plopped down next to a big settlement with access and built out away from them, what concerns would they have that I should mitigate/plan for? I am assuming I cannot contact them, if I can then it makes it easier.

I included my situation in case there is more insight available than just this simple question.

They might have thought you were trying to take over or merge with their settlement. Some of the younger players might have parental controls on & won’t receive any chat messages from you, so they have no idea what your intentions were. I’ve approached some groups that settled near one of my places, with welcoming gifts, but they got scared and took off. lol I just assumed they were kids or people that just want to be left alone…so I let them be.

I would suggest visiting the portal hubs & established settlements, and finding a nice spot that way.

Sometimes you’ll even see a sign posted that lets you know who to contact for a space, how to contact them, if it’s free or not, etc.

I live on Sorissi(Order of Oortian) and have connections to Ultima, Hubbit, Portal Seekers, Hunt Hive, Footfall Co-Op Trior, And Down by the Shore with Pauly. And where ever is not plotted your more than welcome to come plot and build. You can build as big or small as you’d like. And if you plot away from the roads I can plot a road to you(within reason).

I would think the majority of large cities or hubs would have the opposite response - they love people building near them because it gives the impression their city is more populated and adds to their prestigue.

You would like Lacuna. several new players, several old players. Lots of room to stretch your metaphorical legs and build anything. We have a central market with portals maintained that offers all your material needs. We’re on Storis (USW)

Acess from portal seekers Gravidias Te. Portal called Lacuna.
Access from Legendville Hub, portal called “Emporium Nocturne” nearest the Fantasy Tree near the central hub.
Access to Ultima’s shopping experience.

They made a promise with the Sanctum tease for pants. Im holding out until either this game dies, or we get pants. Id like an all natural pair made of hemp with a simple drawstring. Like something Jesus may have worn outside of robes or like I imagine Jason Momoa would wear…

But I got your back @the-moebius, we will have pants soon…

Thanks for the information and some invites/opportunities. I’ll explore around them to see what would work out best.

Hubbit moving the Sorissi access point was a blessing for me anyway. I wasted probably 150 plots so I could get the upper areas of trees cleared. Should have just found a clear area to build, or done it on water. Also building with the less complicated blocks when you first start out looks like garbage when you learn to make and use complex blocks/gleam/chiselling. Probably best to collapse it all and build fresh with the full palette anyway. Things you learn…

Hey head over to New Nixia using any of the portals named TNT Megahub.
We have just built a residential zone where players can plot and build bases.
We have a town centre with a new shop and a mini portal hub so if you want to connect your base to town centre it’s cheap.
Town centre has a direct portal into the megahub skynet where you get direct access to every T1 to T4 planet and a higher tier network.

You should be fine. If it is a big settlement someone should eventually be online at the same time you are. When you see someone head over and introduce yourself. 99% of the people in the game are really nice.

you can also put a mailbox on your plot to help facilitate dialog

Have fun

I find this is often the case… I would advise setting up a sign pointing towards the main part of wherever you’re building next to with 3 or 4 bullet points on what you’re up to. Not for them to dictate, but just as an icebreaker.

If you are a reasonable person, then there are very few situations where people could get offended by your building. Even if you build exactly where a city was planning a road, you could just plop down a footpath through your build and most peeps will be happy to have you.

Hey when are you normally on. If you want to stay where you are rather than move i’ll open a portal for you to my place.
I have access to hubbit and other networks.
It’s only a small portal. If you can donate a few oort once in awhile i’ll keep it open.
I can give you the portal conduits as well.
Let me know. :beers:
