There is a lot of discussion and some quite opposed views about private or semi private world’s.
The only official mention I can find is the linked post, which itself is linked to a post from 2015.
Can any dev give some official word on whether this is something that will actually be happening, and explain how you see it working.
The post seems to suggest private (completely disconnect worlds) and semi-private (rented world’s that are connected to the live game).
I, for one, would like to know how the semi-private worlds would not be in the pay to win category, nothing I have heard from any player has made me think any different.
You literally have a whole world full of resources that one person controls, whether it follows the rules or not, how is that not paying to win?
Are they coming, and what form are they likely to take please?
Given they’re not on the roadmap and there’s often dev silence when they’re mentioned, I wouldn’t worry too much. I also am confident they will implement in a safe way - they don’t want to see p2w either.
The game hasn’t been “completed” in a traditional sense, so we will have to wait and see if they wish to keep it or not. They might still be deciding on this themselves. I’m sure when the right time has come, and the right updates drop they will answer this question themselves without us having to ask about it.
The dev’s actually said that certain backer tiers would have the ability to name a planet and come to an agreement on the terrain style and some colors for a planet of their choice. However it would be a public world, not a private one. All the worlds will be level 1 or 2 I believe as well.
Private worlds were discussed, and an idea was provided, but they never really went further into details for it.
When I asked James 2 months ago about this he said yes but they haven’t started on it or have details on HOW they would do it. I am sure @james can clarify more…
I didn’t push for any other details because they have many more things to put forward in the game that helps the whole community. They have a very specific methodology that makes a lot of sense on deciding what to code and work on next.
Also, from my perspective this requires a whole back end Infrastructure and other things for management so it takes time to develop.
I might have been part of the issue as in the other post (listed at the top in first post or the wishlist post - can’t remember where) I said private worlds. What I was trying to say was similar to what this is:
Those are two different things. naming and designing a planet is a backer tier but that is spate from the developer statements about anyone being able to rent a planet.
