Even though these forums can be pretty toxic, there’s a whole ■■■■-ton of useful information here that new players need. I think gating a cosmetic behind having a forum account would be more of an incentive to check here for answers to their questions before giving up in frustration. Bad idea?

This forum holds a treasure trove of info and links to all other resources. Most of the players that I mention it to, don’t know it exists.
In one MMO I play, you obtain special boots from going to a specific location and doing a walk-thru tutorial of sorts. The info is super helpful and the exclusive wearable is excellent incentive to do it. So, I think your idea would def work
