I used to have moss spheres like this in my fish tank, my decorator crab loved them
Unfortunately he also loved my anemone, 3 different fish, a shrimp and about 20 snails. Lol.
His name was Kim Jong Il

Maybe we could compact grass, growth, and peaty soil to make moss cubes.

I said it at least once in the past, but I do think the game should get an update which adds 1 new block per natural type. Like 1 new folliage, 1 new tree trunk, 1 new grass block, 1 new rock… And have the devs make them part of the world regen, or add them on Exo-worlds.
This moss block could be the new folliage block.
I don’t know if that’d be doable, though. Any idea @lucadeltodecso ?

and it should do that texture spilling to next block thing at least as much as corruption does

And have them also proceed through all the iterations of each natural block. i.e. 1 rock > 1 stone> 1 refined rock > 3 deco > 1 brick > etc. etc.

They could quite simply make Moss be a cave feature.
Hell, to avoid conflicts with where it grows naturally? Make it grow on the ceiling of caves.
Make it spill over like corruption, as mentioned a few posts above. Could even give it a twice as dense “stage one grass” texture to give it more depth, and make it look more like moss than grass.
Possibly make it either pop off when hit, or make it pop off when the host-block is destroyed. Either would work, really.
Last option could be a compressed version, which instead of working like a type of grass, could work like a full block, and could be easily made as a recipe in a Compactor, or maybe also be found naturally?
Mossy cave biomes, anyone?

Right? Could add vines to go with it, that would work like vertical beams dangling from cave ceilings.
