Difference between Temperate vs Placid

I searched for this question but it came up with no results.

What’s the difference between a temperate and a placid planet? Is placid tier 1 and temperate tier 2?

It’s about atmosphere and weather. This system is not fully in place yet.

Oh okay, thank you.

Just from the English definitions temperate would be neither hot nor cold and in the middle most of the time as far as temperature. Sort of like Singapore weather or in the U.S. San Diego. It’s rarely hot and rarely cold by most people’s standards. Placid in weather means overall it’s pretty calm. So, not a lot of storms of any kind. In the case of Boundless I would assume neither has toxic or acidic atmospheres.

Technically placid is tier 1, and temperate is tier 2. They are just descriptors meant to give an idea of planet difficulty, just like tier 3 worlds are ‘rugged’
However, atmosphere levels are defined by planet ranks, so the description is probably aimed at giving an idea of this too.
