Honestly for the most part I just figured it was me, but it looks like, at least among the forum-active users feelings are pretty consistent.
Somewhere around a third of us dislike the event format enough to not participate, despite prizes being fairly coveted. Those that do like the hunts, or want the blocks enough to participate - aren’t really getting enough to spread them around.
At this point I’ll add that the event format also interferes with normal gameplay, which is why I disliked it immediately as a new player. Blasting actives on the lower level home worlds (where we mostly have our bases and commerce) with heavy snowfall for a couple of weeks is not something I’m fond of.
Snow is probably the most complained about weather anyways (except maybe when ‘the fog’ comes). I’m constantly SMH running around the mud flat, looking at my personal snow cloud because my render distance for the snowfall is about a 12 - 15m radius around me
Specifically on topic, Monumental, at least in the form of Tiggs, seems to keep an eye on the forum. Hopefully they’re watching these numbers and input through the cloud of OT chatter and forum squabbles we always have going on.
Snow is probably the most complained about weather anyways
This event is legit the first time I picked up a clear weather totem. I don’t mind that it always rains on my planet, but the snow literally covers up all the builds and i can’t tell what i’m building anymore. So clear weather totem it is.
Yeah it’s kind of funny that this particular event would be probably the most frustrating in the game. Most players are busy at this time of year so as you mention that’s a sort of double strike.
We’ve got Christmas and Valentine’s day.
Gleambow, Halloween, Boundless’ birthday.
That’s it for now, right? It does seem like there’s surplus around of all the other event items. Some might be a little expensive off-season but a normal player can get hold of some if they want to make a few items. If you’re here for the event it’s no problem.
The valentine’s hearts are probably second but that’s not due to game mechanics.
Awkward side tangent but no more religious holidays please. This rpg MMO needs it’s own lore.
I could be completely off here but I think that the Christmas event came around around the same time there was a disconnect with the devs being so busy with other things that they never had a chance to go back and perhaps balance the event to make it a bit easier to get the red candy canes. Twinkles are so small and so red candy cane costly that it just doesn’t make logical sense. … Unless they don’t want us crashing the server with hundreds of them
IIRC this was the first boundless event ever. I was a noob and hadn’t even joined the forum yet. There was a lot more activity in game then, though. And a very large/active hunting community.
For my part the first time I got a meteor on T1 then found myself “embarrassed” to death I was a little sore. Between that and trying to build in the endless snow I just took it easy for a couple of weeks.
I’m just chiming in to express my frustration with the drop rates of red canes. I don’t care to elaborate, as it appears to be a common sentiment, and I’m sure most or all of what I’d say has been said already.
