I was kicked mid-game and when i try to start back up boundless it says “FATAL ERROR 31”
give it a minute and try again. if still not working, reboot usually solves it.
Steam thought i was offline so i had to turn wifi of and back on to fix it.
Internet connection is the culprit for me with that error. Even the direct connection Ethernet will cut out. Thanks Comcast!
Just as I was reading this post… What happens? I lose connection to the game. Try reconnecting multiple times. Quit game. Try to restart game and “FATAL ERROR 31”! First time it’s ever happened to me!
You guys are a bunch of jinx’s! I aint reading the forums no more! I hate you all! lmao.
Happened to me about 2-3 days ago. I force quit Steam and started it back up and worked fine after.
Turns out that there’s a ton of folk out there unable to connect/reconnect to Steam right now. Most of them were in the middle of playing online games. To say that the Steam forums are going nuts right now - is an understatement! lol
happened about a week ago also. TONS of error 17 and 31s
Steam is starting to slack.
Agreed. It’s like they really want game developers to choose Epic lol.
So I have the same problem now.
How do I play??
I’ve rebooted my computer, reset wifi, logged back in and out of steam, does not matter. Everything else on Steam works, messages, activity, other games including online games. It is only Boundless that won’t start and throw this error.
Edit: Looks like Steam Web was down a bit but it is back up. So why is Boundless still reporting an error 31? https://steamstat.us/
The steamstat website isn’t taking into account for a possible hung ID server as the server isn’t technically down, but it means we can’t log in among various other issues. There’s literally thousands of us who can’t log onto steam right now and we’re waiting for acknowledgement from support.
Apparently the issues have been going on for the past 7-8 hrs or more.

How can my account be on a hung ID server if everything else on Steam works for me?
I really have no idea. All I know is that there are various issues that users are having right now and mine all started with a fatal error 31 while playing Boundless. The main issue is users being unable to log into their steam accounts while others are having no issues at all. Some are even able to log into their accounts from the same PC’s as those who can’t.
-.-
At least the mods now merged all the threads on Steam about the topic and pinned the topic. I hope that means Valve finally is on to it. The dead silence about the problem is extremely unprofessional.
Agreed. I really thought they’d at least have acknowledged the issue by now and say that they’re looking into it.
This is probably a better site to keep an eye on regarding the status of the servers and the issues in general -
Re-reading the mod post of the stickied megathread they have no idea what happened and seem unable to contact Valve about this too. He literally asked to have an eye on reddit and let them know if there are any news, they would then update the thread … So not even the Steam forum mods have a connection to Valve??
It doesn’t surprise me that they don’t have a direct contact with the support team. I was a community manager for ModDb once and I had one extra email address for the management than the public had. That address was nothing special and an email from me had an equal chance of reaching management as a site member had. It was simply a private address for behind the scenes communication. Nothing more. So yea, I’m not really surprised.
Anyhow, everything’s back up and running and I’m finally back in the game. Hopefully you’ve had or will have the same luck.
I still get the same fatal error 31.
Ps: Every other online game works for me fine …
I really have no idea. I’m not a techie and my knowledge of servers and their issues is limited.
Perhaps it’s time for @james to have a look and chime in with his 2 cents?
You think he is awake even?
I’ve rebooted my computer again, disabled wifi and re-enabled it, logged out and back into steam again … nope.
