Fix the gem wall please

If you’re not in a hot zone it wouldn’t matter if you were at the right altitude. But as for getting gems there’s so many public mines it takes most of the work out of it already. I have a diamond mine and depending on your specs and type of hammer you can get 1k+ diamonds per hammer. It’s a diamond mine on Malu connected to most the hubs on malu. I’ll have to log in later to make sure the portals are still open. But I believe it hasn’t 5 weeks since I’ve filled them yet.

Yeah, I used iron chisel to make tunnels and expose gems, then used iron hammer to get gems.

It was a bit slow going but I got there.

I also remember hearing great stories about forged diamond hammers so saved up for one then was utterly disappointed with the results! But I wasn’t fully spec’d for mining, also did not have the durability epic, etc.
Waste of money that was! So I got back to chisel mining

Edit: wow, I can’t type on phone!

Rocks into stones tho…

For me the only positive thing that I see to the wall of the gems is that it causes solitary players like me to contact veteran players in search of advice to take a shortcut.

In my case, they taught me how to do mining with regeneration to obtain natural blocks in massive quantities, and then make mass crafts. This gives me a good experience to level up and sell coins to buy the gems or directly the tools already made.

There are many different methods for taking a shortcut to this gem wall, some have already been discussed in this thread such as bean harvesting.

couldn’t this all be solved by forging metal hammers ?
I was never gifted any titanium or gem tools when I was low lvl, and the coils were much more expensive back then, yet I didn’t even notice a wall. I was progressing from one material to a slightly better material without any issues.

I think the reason for that were fairly cheap iron aoe hammers and then very common titanium aoe hammers.

after I was told to save up and get any aoe hammer, it was smooth sailing.

Maybe add a tutorial step to friend a level 50 player?

I’d also still like to see titanium hammers be an easier recipe.

Maybe make iron/copper tools an easier recipe too, like 4 ore and a piece of timber and a piece of sap or something.

Anyone else start out by chisel mining???
A single shot iron hammer and some stone chisels to see if there were ores xD

Edit: plenty of old chisel miners (I should read before I post haha)

or we can all start selling 2nd hand tools! (20% of durability left for 20% of the price)
the biggest problem is to remember that I have to put away the tool before it breaks, but it is not impossible
I occasionally sell such tools at one of my shops and someone always buys them

I haven’t read the whole thread but to me the gem wall is more of a knowledge transfer problem.

A titanium hammer is just as useless when you try to find gems by making random 1x2 tunnels.

I broke the gem wall back in the day when a friend made me aware of bomb mining. (rip)

But today we have altases, aoe hammer forging, brews and pies. That’s the knowledge jump ppl have to make before getting into gem mining.

Why changing recipe this late? Instead buff alloy tools little more
I did buy my first coils that I can use mined gems to advanced coils at once and it was during backer head start. Mining on T5 planets with titanium hammers (maybe also iron ones) and started to use bombs along after I heard those did work better than expected.

Brews weren’t even option because of base duration wasn’t 10min which was changed when bomb mining got changes. And AOE tools were my aim but too distant back then.

Economy is now offering good tools and machines from start on so gem wall shouldn’t be there. Game tutorials just guides players to go mine gems too early for next crafting devices, they should buy something to ease their mining or just buy crafted goods.

This. I totally agree with this. There’s just far too many added steps AND time gates when it comes to the crafting system in this game.

For someone who gathers everything to begin with, it already takes me hours to collect the raw materials. Then another several more hours to fully process it in a multistep system that requires me to practically babysit the machines since there’s no way of doing automated input/output for large batch orders like I do sometimes. So I tend to just start up some crafts, then I’ll swap to another game since I gotta wait anyways.

I carried ss of stone chisels with my miner haha. Good old times. Even made a short video on request, showing how to chisel sides of adjacent blocks (tunelling) and chiseling side of just one block (probing).

Ahh yes, stone chisels! Not iron as I said above, haha

I dont think I ever hit that wall. It’s so easy to make money that I guess I just bought titanium tools. @bucfanpaka has made it super easy to mine the gems you need to progress. Although I will say the ingredients needed to make power coils are way OTT. To the point where selling them for 1,000c is actually insane.

" Meanwhile i am trashing copper and iron cause they waste tons of space."

@georgegroeg look at all that iron you could have bought

This was an issue back then when titanium tool wpuld require power which they dont anymore.

I feel people try to jump from iron to gem right away which is an error. They could get titanium noe make the better hammer or even use bomb to make mining a bit faster at that state.

Some just prefer to do the progression solo without buying anything. It ok but you have to use everything you have in your disposal to try to achieve what you want.

There is an issue with the progression with gold and titanium around the lower tier planet. Which you should start find them on t4 planet. But they are very hard to find on these planets which players tends to jump right away to t5.

Jumping right away from t4 to t5 bring the issue where the iron hammer are really slow because of the block armor. Then the players feels the gem wall since its way longer to find them.

Oh yes, I remember some guys took me to a trip to who knows where (I know it was a high tier planet, not sure which one) when I only had an iron hammer and it was painful, then I bought a titanium hammer and my life changed, never looked back and as I started mining I discovered that I could sell my ores and then get forged tools!

Edit:

Maybe the best solution would be to add/increase titanium to t4 planets?

I agree as well becus it’s hard to make titanium tools

I’ve started from scratch a few times, the first time I hit the gem wall and was a bit lost on what to do. But the next 2 times I just skipped the wall by buying stuff. I don’t enjoy crafting/forging tools, so I just do things I enjoy to make money, then buy the stuff I need.

I’m not sure how clear this method is to newer players. I can’t imagine progressing from fresh to end game solely self sustainably :hear_no_evil:

Shopstands already scale the item price by the wear.
