Fix the gem wall please

Not sure exactly how

But a good start would be to make titanium tools easier to make:

I’d change the recipe for titanium tools to use bars not alloy. And maybe change the recipe to use bonding agent instead of enriched bonding agent.

Totally agree.

What exactly is the gem wall? Genuine question… it’s been so long since I went through it myself and the state of the game was very very different then also.

Is it the battle to get your first few diamonds in order to get enough power on your your workbench to begin making your own gem tools?

Honestly I never had an issue with the gem wall back in the day. With all the tools at hand and super low prices it shouldn’t really even be an issue now imo

Same question here! My guess is it’s that struggle to get power coils for tools and forging of much better tools

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking… I was a mad man early on and insisted on mass crafting or not crafting at all and got my first 360 diamonds using an iron hammer… lol. But that was because I didnt know any better and I was essentially a stubborn fool who refused to buy or sell anything.

To do that again now would be absolute torture… and to be honest using a single target titanium hammer would only be marginally better. So I dont think making a titanium hammer easier to craft is the answer. I think it’s a much more complicated problem than that and has more to do with player knowledge, tutorials, etc.

I mean a power coil is worth about 20 spicy beans or 50 inky leaves to a player who can use the shop finder system. An unforged diamond hammer is even cheaper, a budget forged 3x3 AOE hammer for maybe 2 or 3x that price?

This is the gem wall

That’s an interesting method of climbing I’ve the gem wall! Lol I suppose the way I did it was by hunting hunting hunting until I had alot of creature drops, then I opened a shop and sold forge ingredients which really took off. From then on I’ve just bought all my gem tools/coils haha

But there is no real reason to do that… there are alternatives. Collect 720 spicy beans, sell them to a request basket, buy 360 diamonds for instance.

But this, unfortunately, requires an understanding of the game that a new player wont have. So rather than making the diamonds easier to get, maybe a better fix would be to make this sort of an approach more obvious or improvements to the tutorial system?

Another excellent suggestion. 3 pieces of rough oort = 1 advanced coil

Yeah it’s rough if you aren’t in the economy by then

Otherwise yea beans is the way to go for sure

“Hunt in a group and spawn a meteor” would probably be a good tutorial step

Yeah its that first mass craft for sure, at the time when most were bomb mining shortly after release, I was chisel mining haha, anyone remember that? Now that was torture but it got me there…

Like you can buy titanium tools practically for nothing. I never used copper or iron more than I use a wood pickaxe in Minecraft lol

Not everyone knows about the player economy though.

Just trying to help noobs here

Wait! Someone broke my gem wall???

My opinion the gem wall is a myth and people need to put in the time to advance, simple as that. I put in the time, collected gems and metals and coal. All of it. Sold what I needed to get a better hammer forged gem. Oh and back when it was 30k a hammer! People have it easy now a days and to try and say there’s a “gem wall” makes me chuckle. You can get a 3x3 T6 hammer for around 5-10k now. No offense but new players don’t need to be babied.

Since my experience was pretty easy with tools. I’ve been thinking that the tools should have a harder gap between them, for me anything before titanium feels useless like why would you even try to use that of titanium is so cheap, but seems like I was lucky and mostly every struggles to find shops.

For me, the issue isn’t so much that gems are hard to get, but more so that titanium feels almost as hard to get as a new player, and that by the time your able to get a reliable amount you’ve already likely begun using gem tools anyway to get it, making titanium tools mostly moot.

This. I was using forged 3x3 hammers during my first few days of gameplay. Never looked back at the copper tools I was using. There was no reason too once I figured out dirt cheap high level tools were to buy. I felt like it was TOO easy to get tools.

I do see what DK is saying about if you ARENT involved in the player economy. Then it would be pretty difficult, but, why are you playing this game if you don’t want to be involved in the economy? I too think it’s just an issue of lack of tutorial explaining the player economy and shop scanner system. Because once you see how easy it is to get tools using that economy you’ll wonder why anyone would ever want to play solo with no outside help.

Ive never experienced any progression walls. But that is because I do not make anything i use. The only crafting i do is stone to stones, and stones to refined stones. Occasionally i cook meat or smelt ores but that’s it.

Instead i buy everything and i make all my income from 2 shops. Mainly beans, pulsating orbs, kranut seeds, the purple seeds from caves, and ice as my income. I of course stock all monster drops and stuff you gather. I harvest ice from any exo i go to and normal planets while gathering the above.

I ofcourse would love to make everything but its too much work and time to do that and build a base around it. Like alloys in general shouldn’t be a thing imo. I have farmed like 50k stone or more at various heights on T5+ planets and i dont have more than 10 of any gem. I have a single diamond. Stuff like this discourages me from even wanting to mine for gems. Meanwhile i am trashing copper and iron cause they waste tons of space.

This game over complicates everything. Something like building stairs requiring a chisel, doors requiring multiple pieces to build, torches requiring cloth, and so on. Extra ingredients here and there that are unnecessary and things requiring extra time or proccesses to make, such as alloys, refined stuff to decorative stuff, turning stone into stones (wtf), etc etc.

This game could use some simplification and cutting down of time wasting procedures.

Maybe Minecraft spoiled me but i feel like boundless is like this mod for Minecraft called Gregtech which overcomplicates the entire game making the simplist tasks infinitely annoying.
