Forged effects on torches

It’s becoming popular practice to add light boon and magnetic boon to odd tools so that expensive enchants aren’t lost when a commonly used tool breaks, or to allow the targeting of other valuable boons on your work tools. So, my suggestion is to simply put those interesting enchants onto a torch which already has good light. With torches being a placeable prop, this opens the door to some very interesting new forge effects…

Of course, you would have the full suite of existing boons, defects, and quirks available, but let’s explore some interesting placed effects.

Boon:
Healing aura- When placed, prop heals entities slowly over time when standing within x meters of the torch
Magnetic aura- When placed, prop gently tugs items toward itself.
Creature repellant- When placed, creatures avoid wandering near this prop. (Attacking creatures ignore this effect)

Quirk:
Radioactive- When placed, prop damages entities slowly over time when standing within x meters of the torch
Repulsion aura- When placed, prop gently pushes items away from itself.
Creature lure- Creatures are attracted to this torch.

Defect:
Sizzling torch- prop explodes a few seconds after being placed. This destroys the item and causes moderate explosive damage to blocks and entities x meters from the torch.
Smokey torch- prop exudes an obscuring cloud of smoke in a radius of x meters
Exhausted- prop emits only flickers of dim light with it’s area of effect reduced to x meters.

These sound really interesting and could be used for mini games and such!

Remember the totem pole props post from way back when?
I see some synergy here i hopes…

I like those Ideas. I was hoping for forge-able Atlases (light and magnet) but this is nice too.

Honestly atlas would be a very good candidate for forging since it can’t be placed on the ground or used and is often carried in hand. What would be some defects and quirks for an atlas?

I like this. A healing effect for torches would be great for bases.

My favorite is the sizzling defect… hey, who ordered all of these red candles from ACME? :boom:

Haven’t really thought of those much ^^

a quirk could be sentient/talking. Making random GPS-like remarks.
Or a intense urge to dribble with the atlas like with a basketball.

A defect could be random map rotating or detection inverter.

Creature lure could be amazing for meteors! Or for just building a bit more safe on t4+ planets.

Edit: smokey defect could make for some cool effects for builds like chimneys or industrial aesthetic!

Love these ideas, they are really fun. Here’s to hoping the devs consider!

I would love having the atlas emit light, maybe even as a default. That way when I’m gathering surface resources at night I can still see with a tool in one hand and an atlas in the other.

I like this kind of idea! I would consider “Radioactive” a boon, though… Cuttle trunk discouragement system and so on. ha

sounds like a cool idea, to place items with effects in a battlefield to have cloud control over enemies or create traps

My thought was for it to also damage the player.

A Boon that creates fog would be nice.

You could even somehow have this as a new skill. It would make healers really fun to playn having placeable SoE healing or buffs.

A light absorbing torch would be awesome too.

smoke could be great for building chimneys !

sizzling could make for an awesome alternate rule set for a spliff arena

Was thinking about this again last night… would love the enemy repelling torch ASAP :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha like citronella candles/torches for mosquitos, just for the creatures in the game. Each creature could have their own repellent. This is an awesome ideab we can only hope the devs like it as much as we do lol
