Is it possible to get all the information regarding all portals from in-game?
This information could be used to map the entire galaxy with features like:

  • how to get from A to B (go through portals X, Y then Z)
  • how to find a specific shop (go through portals, X, Y, walk 500m)
  • shortest distance between 2 points - either on same planet of on different planets
  • optimal number of “hops” between 2 points
  • if the information is “live” , the galaxy map could be “live” as well, updating routes based on portal expiry or portal creation
  • could be done with a web app
  • will lead to optimization of portal networks
  • could be an in-game feature but I doubt the devs will spend time on it
  • no more walking through random portals hoping to get closer to your point of interest
  • no more walking 2 kilometers to find out “oh, they have a portal”

@Angellus - can you fetch portal data with your API?

Would be cool if it is possible to do.
As it would probably save “travel time”.

But have to wonder if it is at all possible as it would have to “reload” frequently at least as frequently as the biggest possible portal can be fueled (to take a rough time period), to keep the map accurate.

(Not tech savvy so I wouldn’t know how it would work. But we are talking about a lot of portals and possible routes).

Portals are not available via any known method. The devs would need to give us that. I do not know how much the devs get asked about it, but I get 1-2 people a month asking for portals, so it is a very highly requested feature from my perspective.
