Maybe they are going to keep all the hubs, in case they decide to restart the network again sometime in the future?
Maybe just wishful thinking by me.
One good thing, Iāve had to go exploring again to find ways to get around. āā:biking_man:

I canāt not Blame the Pandemic on shutting down Development companies. As someone who works for an ISP i can tell you they just moved to work from home. Many companies including mine are leaving many positions to be work from home with only coming back to the office if needed. From what I understand only a couple Devās are even on Boundless at this time. The rest are working on another game so the staff on Boundless has been reduced. I would happy with several small updates instead of waiting for all the things we been hearing about coming all at once.
2nd Chance Brews and Compact Oort for portals (^-^)
I am a developer ⦠we laid off 65% of our company due to the pandemic. While many of us worked from home and still do at times. We are doing the same with allowing a lot of employees to continue from home ⦠but my point was a lot of teams, companies and developers had a hard time during the pandemic. A friend of mine who works for a mid-sized gaming firm had their whole team shifted to maintenance mode on a game they had supported and actually halted all future development on 4 games. 3 of those have just now, as of last week been picked back up for development.
I do no fully blame the pandemic for anything, but @james mentioned the pandemic as an issue to me. he didnāt mention what issues, but for him to mention it must mean something.
What hub is that j2nd picture is that PS
Itās my understanding that Boundless development also depends on some proprietary equipment and other items that canāt necessarily just be sent to one personās home. This makes things a little different from your typical IT/Dev job that can be done completely remote, or with a bit of VPN.
Obviously thatās not the whole explanation, but itās an easily forgotten piece.
think thatās Janus II
Proprietary does not mean inaccessible. Especially in todays world. My job literally is deploying the new technology to our network. In 27 years it is amazing to have seen it evolve from analog to RPHY. Funny as we deploy our current Tech we are already testing the next step and will probably shift to it within the second quarter of next year. I do miss the simplicity of the analog days though the job was much more enjoyable lol! Problem with the new stuff is working out all the bugs.
Think your spot on with that!
Well tbh I have no idea of the physical or software limitations on Sonyās hardware developer platforms, but I would guess there are some contractual limitations too.
Like I said itās obviously not the whole answer here. Since the update has been through testing and the delay has been announced to be a procedural issue, itās probably not a resource issue anyways ā¦
I know people who work in shipping, literally just approving BOL paperwork (management) and they couldnāt remote in due to regulations/customs laws
The upper management in the same company couldnāt be allowed to work from home because of network security and concerns of possible data breaches and didnāt want to pay even half of what they got quoted to shore up their security
The Xerox guys in the print shop cant remote in to service certain models of leased machines either, proprietary software requires key in machine to even access it
But then I have some friends who work on sensitive material or federal contracts/jobs and such who were like āthatās literally why they gave me the brick when they hired meā
I guess my point is that if things as simple as āyou have to be physically present to ensure the BOL contains the actual items listed or this cant go to Canadaā prevents working from home, then itās quite reasonable to assume the crew has similar issues to deal with or work around
Just in case you donāt know how creative portals workā¦
There are portals to Janus II all over, but when you are leaving, every portal leads back to whichever entrance you came from.
So I have a portal to somewhere Janus II from my home base. If I go through my home base Janus II portal, then even these portals at the hub would lead back to my home base.
I seem to remember a post a while back, when private worlds were first being discussed that the boundless servers are hosted on 32 core server computers. Those are VERY expensive and I donāt see them being able to just move them home to maintain.
Boundless live game servers are hosted on Amazon AWS EC2 instances.
Those are usually high core count like you say, but they generally arenāt dedicated servers, you just rent some portion of the actual server with different cpu allowance and billing based on instance type.
From what I know about game dev, the biggest hardware issues they would likely have would be that they would have only had a small number of ps4 dev kits, which they would have to make sure the right people have access to for certain development. That could be hard to manage during lockdown, or they could have bought more.
