Just now read a post where there was a suggestion to add a healer and it got me thinking:
How I am totally a stereotypical healer main hipster in some ways because - I too really enjoy support playstyles!
What would a Healer look like in Boundless, indeed, in Oort Online? … What new equipment, skills, mechanics… maybe a mana system and skills that govern caps and regen? … or maybe something more typical of the style in the game already - a sort of - accessible usability with deeper skill point mastery.
Personally, I’m a fan of a “drop-box” “AoE” heal station. I think in mobile, first person games with action shooter mechanics - having a “safe spot”, and a buddy to spec it out and use it at the right times - that is fun imo. … Heal bombs are super good, and honestly sort of create all we basically need already, without knowing offhand if bomb spec affects healing bomb output… so… that’s my idea. Maybe a destiny style long cooldown “super” with a strong heal, that goes away after 20-30 seconds… and then there is some “charge” mechanic - where… hear me out I’m going on a bender here … Ok …
Level 7 Exo Hunt - Crazy - Boundless is popular we got swords and shields - BAM 12 of us on a Exo hitting a rock and … Oh man what is THAT!!! … BOOM - I plunk down my OortBox and - WA WA WA WA … Super Healing is just popping off all around me and everyone is just focusing the Titan … I’m like, throwing some buff bombs… healing… healing…

Hang on dudes I gotta charge it! … so - when the box ends you just < shwoop > have it in your hands, your weapon unequips, and you get three runes in red like 1, 2, 3 … then CHONGG - you are locked in place, like hunkered down, i dunno… praying to the Oort gods in order to charge this thing… or NO make it USE Oort shards!! Oooohhh so like - maybe a “Press R to Reload” but it costs SHARDS

wadya think? we need swards, sheeldz, and I think the wompwomp healer box is cool idunno. … Fully aware of the “reality” and the numerous realities of the game and all at this point in time but… I’m an optimist. If I wasn’t I wouldn’t stick around.

And speaking of energy, I feel it’s fine as a universal resource, it’s more of a scifi game and less of a magic game afterall.
I do like this idea too, like a healing beacon, we already have a guild buff that heals you when inside a guild aligned beacon I’m pretty sure, so this could be a cool extension of that mechanic. A short fuse healing campfire of sorts.
We have the buff bombs, and aoe healing bombs already too, tighten those mechanics up so they apply easier and they are golden already. I think a single target heal/shield buff (probably makes sense to be both at one) would be great if we have more “traditional” tanky type players doing tanky type things too.
I think a lot of the base for some sort of “role/class” system is there with the skilll pages and they could be more focused to fit more of a class system. Currently, though I question how feasible it is in Boundless, because it sounded like there was a pretty big change in the skills that would allow you to be more of a jack-all-trades in the next patch.
Someone can correct me if I’m wrong here, but I for one would like to see more of a class system.
Currently, though you can have a tanky build, a bombing (dmg or healing) build, a DPS (slingbow dmg) build etc.
I think Boundless has always had an identity problem. It’s a creative building game at its core and not an MMORPG.
I played a game back in the day that had a healing class that used a gun. Basically like a laser injector. Too many players run away from my help where I believe a target, single, AoE, burst beam pulse could be a nice little addition. Lets say its a Life Totem. Totems are there…could always add to it
If you can’t tell. I LOVE healing Bombs…can I use a better alternative? PLEASE
I like the idea of a life totem, it really is hard to hit a moving target with healing bombs sometimes. Better yet would be the ability to forge it to have different stats. Alternatively, there could be life augments with multiple charges to make any totem into a healing wand.
I’d love to see combat classes implemented in some sort of way. I always wished they had tapped into the combat side of the game more. Here is an old discussion a few of us had back in '20 on the topic with a few ideas.
Combat on T7 hunts is quiet challenging, always lots of defeats. It would be useful to get the tools for more advanced group combat in place before they ramp up difficulty more so that combat doesn’t become a source of unnecessary frustration. Give us a chance to test the limits on what we have, then give us more to test it against.
